target=_blank>Islamic Cleric Who Defiled Five-Year-Old To Remain In Prison
An Ikeja Magistrate Court has ordered the remandment of Abdulsalam Salaudeen, a 43-year-old Islamic cleric who allegedly defiled a five-year-old female pupil placed under his care.
Salaudeen was arraigned on Wednesday after a defilement suit was filed against him by the Nigeria Police Force (NFP). The defendant denied committing the offence.
Mrs. Olufunke Sule-Amzat, the Chief Magistrate, said the defendant should be held at the Kirikiri Prison, pending advice from the state Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
She adjourned the case till Feburary 7 for hearing.
The defendant, who lives at 16, Awoyemi Street, Igando Road, Ikotun, a Lagos suburb, was docked for defilement. Inspector Benson Emuerhi, the Police prosecutor, told the court that the offence was committed on December 22 at Olorungbebe Mosque located at Iyana Ile-Oba, in Igando area of Lagos.
Emuerhi said the suspect is a popular Islamic cleric within his locality. He further informed the court that the incident was reported by a neighbour at the Ikeja Police Command.
The accused was arrested by operatives of the Lagos State Police Command. In a video presented to the Lagos Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi, the cleric was caught defiling the girl who was supposed to be learning Islamic studies.
CSP Chike Oti, the Police Public Relations Officer, said a neighbour of the accused had tendered the evidence to the headquarters of the Lagos State Police Command.
The offence, Emuerhi argued, contravened Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. The section prescribes life sentence for offenders.

target=_blank>Christ Apostolic Church Pastor Arrested For ‘Impregnating’ 16-Year-Old Church Member
Josiah Akinsuyi and Sunday Babatunde, accused of sexually defiling a 16-year-old.
Josiah Akinsuyi, a pastor with the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) in Ondo State, has been arrested over allegations of impregnating a 16-year-old girl in the state.
The 46-year-old pastor was also said to have been involved in an affair with the victim’s elder sister before he was exposed.
Officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ondo State, paraded the pastor before journalists in Akure on Wednesday.
Pedro Awili, the NSCDC Commandant in Ondo State, said the incident was reported by the father of the victim. He said the victim confessed to her father that she was already four months pregnant after a pregnancy test was conducted.
He revealed that the girl and her family stayed in the same neighbourhood where the pastor’s church is located at Abusoro in Ijoka area of Akure, adding that the suspect took over from one Sunday Babatunde, who was also involved in sexually defiling the girl.
“Our investigation revealed that the pastor had had carnal knowledge of the girl three times and we have carried out pregnancy test which proved that the girl is four months pregnant. Investigation also revealed that the elder sister of the girl has something doing with the pastor, because the first time he wanted to have carnal knowledge of her, she was not cooperating and she informed her sister about it, and the sister asked her to cooperate with the pastor,” he said.
“She told us that there was a time this same pastor slept with her in the classroom of one private school owned by his wife. The pastor denied having any intercourse with the girl. I am not expecting him to accept the allegation. The girl confessed to us that the pastor had earlier promised to give her N50,000, but he failed on his promise.
“We think it was because the pastor failed to redeem his promise and was not attending to her again that made the girl confess to her father.”
Awili stressed that the pastor would soon be charged to court for prosecution.

E2%80%98apc-thugs%E2%80%99-attack-atiku-campaign-office-ondo-destroy-posters-and-billboards target=_blank>‘APC Thugs’ Attack Atiku Campaign Office In Ondo, Destroy Posters And Billboards
The campaign office of Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Akure, the Ondo State capital, was on Wednesday attacked by some hoodlums.
The hoodlums were suspected to be the members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who were allegedly working under certain instructions.
A Sahara Reporters correspondent learnt that the rampaging hoodlums scaled the fence of the office located along Ijapo Estate Road in Akure and destroyed the billboards and posters bearing Atiku.
Olumide Ogunkua, Personal Assistant to the Ondo State Coordinator of the Atiku Presidential Campaign, confirmed the attack to journalists in Akure, the state capital.
Ogunkua noted that the hoodlums, after entering into the compound of the campaign office, began to chant the APC slogan of ‘Next Level’ and tore the posters of the Atiku/Obi for 2019 President, including other PDP posters of candidates in the state.
He disclosed that the security guard in the compound was molested and beaten before he was tied up by the suspected hoodlums.
“We got a call today from one of our sympathizers that all the billboards, banners and posters in front of our Campaign (Atiku) office have been vandalized and destroyed,” he said.
“We quickly rushed down there and by the time we got in, we all noticed that they had destroyed the poster and removed Alhaji Atiku Abubakar new billboards that we just erected.
“In fact, they tied our security guard for challenging their action and also took his two phones away with all other personal belongings.
“The security guard told us that the hoodlums scaled through the fence and held him hostage before finally perpetrating their dastardly act by destroying the newly-erected boards.
“It indicates the desperation of the ruling party because our guard told us that the hoodlums were shouting the slogan of ‘Next Level’ when they were destroying the bill boards and banners.”
Ogunkua later condemned the action of the hoodlums, saying the attack and vandalism have already been reported to security agencies in the state for investigation.
He added that the Atiku presidential campaign team in the state would write both the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the Director of the Department of State Service (DSS) to formally report the evil act.
“It is sad and if a stop is not put to, it might be a threat to the peaceful conduct of the general election next month.
Reacting, the APC Publicity Secretary in the state, Comrade Alex Kalejaiye, condemned the attack but denied allegations that the hoodlums were his party members.
“We are so confident of our victory come February 2019, so we won’t have any reason whatsoever to attack any party or their facilities,” he said.
“The state government under the APC controls the signage agency that moderates the activities of setting up billboards, which collects revenue.
“So, why do you think we would now sponsor anyone or group to destroy what brings in revenue in the state government’s purse. We would never encourage such. If anybody is pointing accusing finger at the APC, the person is doing it out of either frustration or ignorance.”
When contacted, Femi Joseph, the Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, said the command had not yet been briefed about the attack.

target=_blank>El-Zakzaky’s Supporters Run To The US Embassy For Help
Shiites with official of the US Embassy during the protest.
Members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) have called on the United States of America to prevail on the Nigerian government to release their leader, Ibraheem El-Zakzaky, to enable him attend to his failing health.
The group made the appeal on Wednesday in Abuja during a peaceful protest at the US Embassy. The protesters carried placards and defied the presence of armed policemen who were stationed around the perimeter of the facility.
Addressing the protesters, Abdullahi Muhammad Musa, the Secretary of the Academic Forum of the movement, said the group wants the US to prevail on President Muhammadu Buhari to release Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky and his wife, Zeenah, from “illegal detention to allow him seek medical attention”.
Speaking on why they wanted their leader released, he said: “Failure to release Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky and his wife will further increase the momentum for Free Zakzaky protests in Abuja, most particularly your embassy. We have been holding Free Zakzaky protests daily for the past one year. The protest will continue and your commission will continue to be a place for our protest, until Sheikh Zakzaky is released. We are at your commission today, and we will continue to come for our demand.
“As champions of the so-called democracy, you assert to protect the right of people, but hundreds of students, women and children were massacred in Zaria in December 2015. Hence, you continue to support the tyrannical administration of Buhari. The UK High Commission may wish to note that people are not ignorant of the open free hand given to Buhari to execute the massacre of hundreds of students, women and children and to detain Sheikh Zakzaky.
“This is a clear evidence of the open support from the UK, US and Israel to the Muhammadu Buhari-led administration. In fact, the world is now aware that the Zaria massacre is a pre-planned pogrom, well-scripted, planned to eliminate Sheikh Zakzaky and his Islamic movement for imperialism to gain full control over our resources and for occupation purposes.”
Musa said the embassy would be made a meeting point for the daily protests of the group if it fails to prevail on the Nigerian government and berated the officials of the embassy for “maintaining a defeaning silence, despite the genocide and mass murder being committed by the Buhari-led government”.

target=_blank>Politicians ‘Share’ 1,000 Job Slots Meant For Unemployed Youth In Bayelsa
Graduates from Bayelsa State have cried out over the alleged hijack of the state government’s recruitment exercise of 1,000 unemployed youth into the civil service.
The graduates claim that politicians have truncated the process and shared the slots among themselves.
Under the leadership of the Bayelsa State Graduates Forum (BSGF), the graduates expressed dissatisfaction with the ongoing 1,000 civil service recruitment exercise embarked upon by the state government.
A statement made available to newsmen in Bayelsa, through the Secretary of the Forum, Domor Mienye, referred to the exercise as a “sham”.
Noting that there was evidence of faulty handling of the recruitment process, Mienye said: “The process which started in June 2018 should have been completed by now, but the fate of applicants is hanging by a thread.
“We are disappointed by the way and manner the exams were conducted. In this age and time where recruitment processes are completely automated, the Bayelsa State Civil Service Commission is subjecting our people to a rigorous, yet ineffective, semi-automated process, where scores for computer-based tests were not published because of their ulterior motive.
“Information reaching the forum has it that the 1,000 slots have already been shared amongst top politicians, and some cronies of the Governor from a particular LGA have highjacked a major percentage of the slots, which is making it difficult for qualified graduates that participated in the exercise to be employed.
“We are using this medium to notify the public what the Dr Peter Singabele-led commission is doing, which poses grave danger if not averted immediately, and we are appealing to the Restoration Governor to call the commission to order as his reputation and integrity will be harmed by this unholy act if not stopped. In a nutshell, what we are saying is we expect a recruitment process that is free, fair, and credible. No local government area is superior to the others. Hence, we expect the slots to be spread across the various LGAs using the metrics.”
The graduates also urged the commission to do the needful and publish the names within two weeks, “after which the forum will have no choice but to mobilise its members to make a peaceful protest”.

target=_blank>All-Female Air Peace Crew In Lagos Foil Attempt To Traffic Three-Day-Old Baby
An all-female crew of Air Peace have foiled the attempt by a kidnapper to traffic a three-day old baby to Lagos from Port Harcourt International Airport (PHIA).
The airline said the all-female crew comprised Captain Sinmisola Ajibola, Senior First Officer Onohi Agboighale, Mojoko Ewane, Taiye Abbey, Victoria Ukpiaifo and Ngozi Ezeamaka.
A source close to the airline confided in SaharaReporters that the group was led by a middle-aged woman, who, with her collaborators, had booked the airline’s flight to Lagos.
According to Chris Iwarah, Corporate Communications Manager of Air Peace, the suspect booked Air Peace Port Harcourt-Lagos flight P4 7393 and during boarding, the lead member of the crew, Mojoko Ewane, observed that the suspect was handling the baby in an awkward manner and decided to question her.
When she was questioned at the boarding door of the aircraft, the suspect claimed the baby was three days old. During further interrogation, the suspect allegedly contradicted herself when she stated that the baby was born on January 5, a day before her aborted trip. The suspect said she gave birth to the baby shortly after travelling from Lagos to Port Harcourt on an Air Peace flight on January 5.
“A call was later placed to the contact numbers the suspect said belonged to her husband and the doctor who handled the birth of the child. While the alleged husband claimed that his wife was actually pregnant, the alleged doctor’s number rang unanswered. When the suspect was asked to breastfeed the baby, she could not as there was no breast milk. The suspect tried to create a scene, rallying other passengers on the flight to prevail on Air Peace crew to allow her fly, but the crew stood their ground.”
It was gathered that when the crew informed the suspect that the carrier’s standard operating procedure barred them from allowing passengers fly with a week-old baby on grounds of health, she claimed to be a nurse and insisted that the baby’s health would not be jeopardised. The airline, it was gathered, later invited personnel of the Department of State Services (DSS) at the Port Harcourt Airport to take over the case for further investigation.
Iwarah confirmed the incident on Wednesday, saying the airline was proud that its crew professionally discharged their responsibility to ensure passengers’ safety and assist government in fighting crime. A DSS source in Port Harcourt also confirmed that the suspect had been transferred to the zonal office of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, for further investigation.
The suspect was said to have confessed that a lady gave her the baby. The DSS official also commended Air Peace crew for foiling the attempted child trafficking with their vigilance.
In June 2018, Air Peace crew exposed a suspected trafficker of a three-month-old baby on its Lagos-Banjul flight.

target=_blank>Two Suspended APC Leaders Endorse Okowa ‘In Exchange For Contracts, Millions Of Naira’
The two suspended APC leaders endorsing Governor Ifeanyi Okowa in Delta State.
Joe Arausi and Abikelegba Odhegolo, two suspended leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Isoko Federal Constituency of Delta State, in the company of a few members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Isoko have endorsed Ifeanyi Okowa, Governor of Delta State, for a second term in office.
The suspended APC leaders are alleged to have endorsed Okowa in exchange for contracts running into millions of naira.
A top government official, who preferred not to be named for fear of being sacked, confided in SaharaReporters that: “It was a deal struck between the Governor and some leaders of PDP in Isoko, Joe Arausi and Abikelegba Odhegolo, to endorse the Governor, since they were on suspension.
“Thereafter, they defected to the PDP. After much discussion, the Governor agreed to compensate them with contracts worth millions of naira. It was unanimously agreed that the endorsement would look like an APC and Isoko nation affair, and should take place at Joe Arausi’s residence in Oleh.”
Arausi, once a critic of the Okowa government, is from Isoko South, a member of the Elders’ Council of the APC and a former member of the House of Representatives, and Abikelegba Odhegolo, who doubles as a member of the APC South-South caucus and Delta State executive committee member, endorsed Okowa for a second tenure on Tuesday with other PDP members in Isoko.
The endorsement took place at Arausi’s residence, Oleh, headquarters of Isoko South Local Government Area of the state, and was attended by Okowa and his entourage, as well as some PDP leaders and members.
In their separate speeches, Arausi and Odhegolo commended Okowa.
“I am the leader of APC in Isoko South and the leader of the APC in Isoko North. On behalf of Isoko people, we have a pact with the Ika people, the people of Delta North to complete their tenure, because we believe in equity. We believe this is the turn of the Anioma people and in the spirit of equity, you (Governor Okowa) should continue till 2023,” Arausi said.
On his part, Odhegolo stated: “Our Governor, you are the road master, because your signs are everywhere. Let us leave party issues aside; let us speak with facts. You have performed wonderfully well. The change we talk about in APC is in you, Governor Okowa; your performance has made a lot of us in APC uncomfortable. I am speaking my mind and that of members of the opposition political parties. We have decided that because of your performance, we will work for your victory.”
Okowa thanked the two APC leaders and Isoko people for the support.
“This gathering depicts the political prowess of Chief Arausi; it takes leadership to gather members of the APC and PDP. I believe the best way to govern is to continue to ask for the partnership of the people because, with the support of all, governance is made easier; there will be peace and development. I thank all Deltans for their support. It is a thing of joy that majority of our people believe in equity; equity engenders peace, cooperation and respect for one another,” Okowa said.
An executive member of Isoko South PDP, who interacted with SaharaReporters via phone and did not want to be named, said: “The whole show was to cause confusion in the APC camp, in Isoko and Delta State in particular. But, I can say authoritatively that Arausi and Odhegolo gained the more in the whole arrangement. They now have contracts running into some millions of aira and when the Governor was leaving, some millions of naira was dropped for them also, though not to the knowledge of everybody.”
When contacted on the issue, Arausi said he was in a meeting at the time and so could not speak on the issue. However, one of his close political associates, who did not want his name mentioned as he was not authorised to speak, debunked the reference to contracts for the Governor’s endorsement, said: “Though a deal was struck, I doubt if it was in the form of contracts and money. In a few days time, they shall defect from APC to PDP and that’s all I can tell you for now.
Meanwhile, the APC State Working Committee, Delta State Chapter, has disassociated itself from the “stage-managed and purported endorsement”.
A statement signed by Sylvester Imonina, its Publicity Secretary, obtained by SaharaReporters, read: “Chief Joe Arausi and Hon. Abikelegba Odhegolo, some time ago, had misunderstanding with their APC ward executives over their anti-party dispositions for almost a period of one year. That some members of the SWC of our great party and some leaders of thought from Isoko Nation waded into the political battle of the duo, in view of the fact that the party wanted cohesion and peace at all levels of the party.
“That Chief Arausi and Hon. Odhegolo refused to listen to voice of reason, rather, they resorted to more orchestrated divisive tendencies. That because of the trouble they were fomenting, APC, Oleh, Ward 1 suspended Chief Arausi from the party, while members of the executives of Ozoro Ward 2, in their wisdom kept Hon. Odhegolo at arms length. That Chief Arausi and Hon. Abikelegba were not and had never been part of APC caucus or Leaders’ Council in Isoko land.
“There was no member of APC of Isoko Nation that joined Chief Arausi and Hon. Odhegolo in their self-seeking pursuit, as the duo were/are no longer members of the Party. These were the state of things as it concerns the duo before now. Though, it was not the wish of APC that Chief Arausi and Hon. Odhegolo stray away from the party, and journey to political oblivion. However, the party had to stamp her authority on the position of their Wards Executive, since Chief Arausi and Hon. Odhegolo were unrepentant in their unholy ventures.
“APC, Delta State did not, and will not lose sleep over their unwarranted and unsavoury political journey. It was a known fact that within the party, they were playing the role of ‘bull in china shop’. Their dispositions towards the party were very unhealthy to the survival of the party. APC Delta State wants to assure all teeming members and supporters of the party that despite the fact that some persons are trying to paint the party in bad light by creating false impression of our great party, the party leadership is doing all within her power to consolidate on the peace and harmony achieved so far in the party.”

target=_blank>Amaechi Spills The Beans But Some Nigerians Still Support Buhari? By Bayo Oluwasanmi
The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing. – Edmund Burke
Political history of Nigeria for 58 years is history of why good people follow bad leaders. Why do bad leaders rise to the top? Why do we keep following them? Why do we keep electing them? Nigeria is a country where bad leaders attract blind followers. Bad leaders have done irreparable harm to our country, yet they have faithful followers.
Nigerians have tons of knowledge about how Nigeria should be, but everything, I mean everything, in Nigeria remains more dysfunctional, chaotic, and ungovernable. Yet, Nigerians nominate bad leaders as presidential candidates of All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). How is that even possible?
Some of the characteristics of our bad leaders include: believing that they are the greatest, and others don’t matter. They engage in corruption directly or indirectly. They have no concern about hurting others. They are incompetent, and they threat anyone who stand in their way of power or accumulating wealth. They use state organs or structures such as the police, the army to interfere, subjugate, suppress, and oppress others. They have the tendency to over control by instilling a culture of fear, reprisal, and isolation. They appoint puppets in key and important portfolios so they can be controlled and manipulated.
A leaked audio recording in which the Minister of Transportation and Director General of President Muhammadu Buhari Campaign Organization Rotimi Amaechi allegedly described Nigeria as helpless and hopeless, exposed the incompetence, foolishness, aloofness, stubbornness, arrogance, and dumbness of President Buhari has since gone viral.
Here’s Amaechi talking: “This country can never change, I swear. The only way this country can change is if everybody is killed. When Magnus (Abe) was my SSG, I told him that this country is hopeless and helpless. He said “Oga, stop it now. Coming from a governor, don’t be saying that. But two months in Abuja, Magnus said this country is hopeless and helpless. I said why? He said, you are right, the only thing they do in Abuja is share money, they don’t work. The president does not listen to anybody. He doesn’t care. You can write want you want to write. The president doesn’t care. Does he read? He will read, he will laugh. He will say “come, come and see, they are abusing me here.” “In fact, there was one case of somebody in Onitsha, a trader in Onitsha who couldn’t sell his goats during Sallah. And I was with Oga on the plane and the man was busy abusing Buhari. He said “Amaechi, come, what is my business with Onitsha goat seller.?”
Before the Amaechi leaked audio, I’ve been thinking and asking myself why are some Nigerians still supporting and following bad leaders like Buhari and Atiku? Good old fear is one reason why people still support the Buharis and Atikus. Fear of Buhari’s and Atiku’s formidable opponent – Omoyele Sowore presidential candidate of African Action Congress (AAC) of disrupting for good and for ever, our old purposeless politics. Contempt is another reason. One of the tactics of Buhari’s administration is scapegoating his failures and incompetence on past administration of President Jonathan. Saying things like “I met an empty treasury,” “I didn’t know the situation was that bad,” “There’s less corruption in my government than Jonathan’s,” “Buhari administration has fulfilled all its promises to Nigerians,” “Boko Haram has been decimated,” “We can’t fix 16 years of PDP rot in four years,”
Lies is yet another reason. It’s amazing how blatant lies can be believed. Once Buhari followers accept certain lies such as “We have created two million jobs,” We’re moving the country in the right direction,” “Buhari is a man of integrity,” “Buhari is doing his best but the National Assembly is the problem,” “We have constructed so many miles/kilometers of roads,” “We have empowered ten million women through Tradermoni,” “We’re producing more rice than we can consume.” Because of these and other numerous lies, Buhari supporters do their best to support him with confirmation even when it’s not true.Followers of Buhari thrive on fake news and lies. It was Nero who promoted the fake news that Christians had burned Rome when he was the one to blame. Lying about it strengthened his power and moved his agenda forward. Similarly, from small falsehoods and omissions to sprawling lies and intentionally deceptive schemes, Buhari has been hoodwinking his supporters who are willing to be deceived because they like what is being offered.
Promises make supporters of Buhari follow him. False hopes create false pictures about the past and the present, Buhari offers glowing images of the future, saying “Follow me to the NEXT LEVEL!”We are weeks to the presidential elections, so what do we do? The most important skill of leadership is to lift up people and tackle major challenges. Nigerians this time around, must be wise in finding the best candidate and support him rather than defer to the Buharis and Atikus and follow them blindly. We must be cautious and do due diligence on the three major candidates – Sowore, Buhari, and Atiku – before following, supporting, and voting for them. We must remember that we need a candidate who can tackle challenges of governance and improve the debilitating socioeconomic conditions of our people.
What gets measured gets changed. It is instructive to remind supporters of Buhari and Atiku that the best predictor of future behavior is past behavior. When results of their past are measured, no doubt Buhari and Atiku candidacies are not good for Nigerians.
With the record of Buhari and Atiku, Nigerians should and must reject them at the polls. We must consider the skills needed of a good president: strength, vision, compassion, and humility… Let’s go there!
