Manchester City’s owner is worth nearly $5 billion after Silver Lake deal

US private equity giant Silver Lake is investing $500 million in the owner of Manchester City, a deal that values the soccer group at nearly $5 billion and signals a concerted move by the veteran tech investors into sports.
Under the agreement announced Wednesday, Silver Lake will buy just over 10% of City Football Group, which is controlled by the United Arab Emirates royal Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
In addition to the English Premier League champions Manchester City, the soccer group owns teams in the United States, Australia, China, Japan, Spain, and Uruguay.

Soccer: Man jailed for 10 years for armed attack on Arsenal players

A man who tried to rob Arsenal players Mesut Ozil and Sead Kolasinac at knifepoint in a failed North London carjacking last July was sentenced to 10 years in jail on Friday.
The BBC reported that Ashley Smith, 30, was sentenced at Harrow Crown Court after admitting trying to steal watches worth 200,000 pounds ($255,440.00) from the Premier League players.

An accomplice, 26-year-old Jordan Northover, had also admitted involvement in the attack and was awaiting sentencing.

Chelsea’s Tammy Abraham hopes injury ‘not too serious’

Tammy Abraham hopes scans on Thursday will clear him of any serious hip injury after he fell heavily during Chelsea’s 2-2 draw with Valencia in the Champions League.
Just before half-time, the in-form Chelsea striker fell awkwardly while competing for a corner in Valencia’s box at the Mestalla.
The 22-year-old received treatment on the pitch and walked off with help from Chelsea’s medical staff. But, before Abraham could make it to the tunnel he went down holding his side before eventually being stretchered off.

Jurgen Klopp says he is unsure of the severity of Fabinho’s injury but says the outcome is “massive” after the midfielder limped off in Liverpool’s 1-1 draw with Napoli.
Fabinho, who has played in all but one of Liverpool’s Premier League games this season, limped off in the first half after team-mate Dejan Lovren attempted to tackle Hirving Lozano.
