Amaechi signs MoU on rail modernisation in Sochi Russia

Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with two Russian firms for the modernisation and development of railway infrastructure.
The MoU also covers the rehabilitation of existing Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) rolling stock-fleet and upgrading of workshops across the country.
Mr Israel Ibeleme, the media aid to the Minister disclosed this in a statement on Thursday in Abuja.
The two Russian firms are Joint Stock Company Russian Railway (JSCRR) and Transmash Holding, a private rolling stock manufacturing company.

Minimum wage: NLC directs states to negotiate consequential adjustments

The National leadership of Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, has directed its state chapters to immediately commence negotiations with their state governments to arrive at consequential adjustments on the N30,000 new minimum wage.
The labour parent body, however, asked the state chapters to await the table which will be drawn by the federal government in line with the recent agreement with labour on the consequential adjustments.

Deputy National President of NLC, Comrade Amaechi Asuguni, gave the directive as the outcome of NLC 2019 National Leadership Retreat that ended in Enugu yesterday.

The Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Chief Gani Adams, on Thursday said the closure of the nation’s land border has grave economic implications on people of South-West in particular, and Nigeria as a nation.
Adams made the assertion on Thursday at the 2019 Olokun Festival at Suntan Beach, Badagry, Lagos State.
According to Adams, the border closure largely affects us more in the South-West than any other regions.
“The Federal Government had ordered the closure of the border, but unfortunately, the closure seems suspicious to me.

Flooding: Ogun govt assures residents of Isheri of support

The Ogun government, on Thursday, promised the victims of flooding in Isheri community in Ifo local council area of government’s support to ameliorate their suffering.
The state Deputy Governor, Mrs Noimot Salako-Oyedele, gave the promise when she led a government delegation on an on-the-spot assessment of the area.
Salako-Oyedele said that the visit was aimed at finding lasting solutions to the challenge and bringing succour to the people of the area.

Nigeria and Russia on Thursday in Sochi, Russia, signed an important Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which will enable both countries’ oil giants, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and Russia’s Lukeoil to elevate commercial relationship to a government-to-government backed partnership.
Malam Garba Shehu, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, confirmed this development in a statement in Abuja,
He said with signing of the MoU, NNPC and Lukeoil would work together in upstream operations and revamp Nigeria’s refineries.

NJC approves appointment of 4 Supreme Court Justices, others

The National Judicial Council (NJC) on Thursday recommended four Justices of the Court of Appeal to President Muhammadu Buhari for appointment as justices of the Supreme Court.
Mr Soji Oye, Esq, the Director of Information disclosed this in a statement in Abuja.
Those justices recommended for Supreme Court appointment include Adamu Jauro, from the North-east zone; Emmanuel A. Agim, South-south zone; C. Oseji, South-south zone and Helen M. Ogunwumiju from the South-west zone.

An NGO, Connected Development (CODE), said on Thursday that a total of 609 public schools in Kaduna State have no toilet and water facilities.
The Executive Officer of the organization, Hamzat Lawal, made the disclosure during a visit to the state Deputy Governor, Dr Hadiza Balarabe in Kaduna.
The organisation was at the Government House to present an award it received from the United Nations on its activities in Kaduna state.
