ABUJA—The Deputy Registrar of the West African Examination Council, WAEC, Oshindehinde Adewumi, yesterday, told the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja that he was the one that certified President Muhammadu Buhari’s statement of results.
However, under cross-examination, the witness, who was subpoenaed to appear before the Justice Mohammed Garba-led five-member tribunal, said he could not confirm Buhari’s Cambridge Assessment International Certified Statement Of West African School Certificate issued in 1961, which was earlier admitted in evidence as exhibit R-21.

On July 26, 2019, a Federal High Court presided over by Justice Nkeonye Maha made an order pursuant to an application brought by the Federal Government where she “designated the activities of the Shiite organisation in any part of Nigeria “as acts of terrorism and illegality” and made an order proscribing the existence and activities of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria in any part of Nigeria under any guise either in groups or as individuals.”

In search of a legal solution to the perceived danger posed by members of Shi’ites Islamic Movement of Nigeria, IMN, the Federal Government last week secured an exparte order from a Federal High Court in Abuja proscribing the group. Before then, government had unsuccessfully used various means to curtail the activities of the group which main demand is the release of their detained leader, Ibrahim ElZakzaky and his wife. Since Federal Government secured the order declaring the group an illegal organisation, there has however, been an unusual consensus in the legal community that the order is legal and a nullity.
