5G Not Responsible For Coronavirus, Nigerian Institute Of Physics Says

The Nigerian Institute of Physics has allayed fears that the Fifth-Generation Communication Network (5G) is linked to the deadly Coronavirus pandemic ravaging the world.
There has been several negative narratives and theories around the 5G network all over the world on the dangers posed by the innovation.
The NIP made the clarification at a press conference in Kaduna on Tuesday, saying instead the world will gain a lot from the innovation.
According to the President of NIP,  Prof Hycienth Ogbu Aboh, the institute does not believe that wireless communication of whatever generation now or in the nearest future was exposing mankind to any more radiation energy.

He said, “We do not in particular believe that the low energy packets and intensity from 5G antennas will transform to an organised aggregate of DNA molecules that constitute the Coronavirus as being peddled currently.
“There was a pandemic in 1919, hundred years before 5G.
“The institute is fully aware that any technological innovation is a product of rigorous scientific research and that before any technology is deployed for public consumption, adequate studies on its short and long-term health and environmental implications must have been conducted by relevant competent authorities.”

Mauritania, West African Country With Seven COVID-19 Cases, One Death, Now Coronavirus-free

Authorities in Mauritania say the country does not have an active case of Coronavirus as at today after all six patients tested negative out of the seven confirmed cases.
The other patient died of the disease, the Africanews reported on Tuesday night.
Mauritania has a population of four million people and it is one of the few African countries that have so far recorded single-digit infection along with the likes of Burundi, Sao Tome and Principe, South Sudan.
Mauritania said it continued to carry out tests since March 13 when the index case was recorded.
The country is currently enforcing a night-time curfew as part of containment efforts.
“Congratulations to Mauritania, today officially COVID-19-free. May many other countries follow suit,” Mamadou Sow, Head of the International Committee of the Red Cross in Southern Africa, tweeted on Tuesday night.
“Mauritania had only seven cases. One died, six recovered.
“This should have been our story if they shut all borders after the Italian man tested positive to the virus (in Nigeria),” a Nigerian identified as Victor wrote on Twitter.

E2%80%99t-extend-lockdown-small-scale-entrepreneurs-beg-president-buhari-governors-hardship Don’t Extend Lockdown, Small-scale Entrepreneurs Beg President Buhari, Governors As Hardship Bites Deep In Lagos, Other Nigerian Cities

Thousands of informal workers and small-scale entrepreneurs in Nigeria, who have been rendered jobless as the lockdown continues in different parts of the country, are counting their losses as government struggles to contain the  spread of Coronavirus.
Worried by the decline in their income and the attendant hardship, they are begging government to relax the lockdown or grant them palliatives to survive the period.
Already, there is growing concern that another extension of the lockdown could lead to hunger, frustration and unrest.
Informal workers affected by the lockdown include event planners, caterers, local food vendors, artisans, street traders and other small-scale business owners, who rely on daily income to feed themselves and their families.
The informal sector contributes immensely to Nigeria’s economy.
Economic measures put in place by the federal and state governments have been faulted because of its coordination and implementation.
Many workers and families complained that they received nothing from the government.
The informal workers spoke in separate interviews with SaharaReporters on Tuesday.
“Since this total lockdown started, my make-up business has stopped due to the fact that nobody is organising parties, dinners and get-together again.
“I had wedding jobs this month of April that was supposed to fetch me over N40,000 but they were cancelled due to this lockdown,” Oyindasola Taiwo, a stylist, told SaharaReporters.
She lamented that since the outbreak of the virus in Nigeria, her clients had been forced to cancel their parties.
“I’m afraid, if the lockdown is extended again, I might have to collect low pay for jobs.
“Our products are becoming more expensive than it used to be. No job to do, no money,” she said.
Also narrating her ordeal, Event Manager of Tana Explixi, a supply factory, who simply introduced herself as Toyin, said she had to decline job offers due to the lockdown.
She also said that clients were becoming afraid of patronising them as they may get exposed to the virus.
She said, “In spite of the lockdown, some people still wish to surprise their loved ones but there is no means of transportation to get to the locations.
“Some of our clients had to cancel our job because they are afraid of being infected.
“People working with me are unable to get paid because the company’s funds have gone down since we have not been able to work.”
Mrs Olaniyan, a caterer in Lagos, has a similar tale.
She lamented that her family had resorted to getting loans from friends and families in order to survive due to the lockdown.
“Some of us feed our families with these small jobs that we do weekly.
“We get paid, send children to school and maintain the family but since the lockdown, we have not been able to work.
“No events, no job, children are back home and we struggle to feed especially since the relief materials are not getting to us.
“We have no choice than to go borrowing.
“As soon as this is over, the first thing we have to think about is how to refund these loans,” she said.

Group Commends Redeployment Of Rivers And Abia Police Commissioners Over Human Rights Violations

IGP Mohammed Adamu

IGP Mohammed Adamu

The Rule of Law and Accountability Advocacy Centre has commended Nigeria’s Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, for redeploying the Commissioners of Police in Rivers and Abia states due to rights violations of citizens under their watch.
RULAAC in a statement by its Executive Director, Okechukwu Nwanguma, on Tuesday said, it would serve as a warning to negligent police commissioners around the country, who abuse the rule of law and trample on human rights. He said, “The Abia incident could have been averted were the police leadership alive to its duties and responsibilities. “An early visit to the scene of the incident and to the family of victims and community leaders, could have assuaged passion and averted the reprisal that led to the unfortunate burning of government assets by the angry mob.”
Nwanguma called on police commissioners in the country to prohibit unwarranted arrests and extortion by their men.He said, “We have seen cases of abuse of police powers and abuse of citizens’ rights; flouting of the IGP’s orders prohibiting unnecessary arrests and detention of persons on minor offences; exploitation of the orders restricting movement to harass, intimidate and extort money, and in some cases brutalise or even kill citizens.”RULAAC will continue to monitor and report on conducts of law enforcement during this period and demand prompt and appropriate disciplinary actions against offenders.”Citizens must also make the job of law enforcement agents easier by complying with lawful orders and directives, while government should provide adequate palliatives for the people to alleviate their hardships in this difficult period of lockdown.”
