PwC raises concerns over Nigeria’s N121.6tr debt, rising deficit

Court dismisses Kanu’s N1b right violation suit against DSS

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, yesterday, dismissed a suit by the detained leader of the separatist group, Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, seeking N1 billion damages for alleged right violation. Justice James Omotosho held that Kanu failed to provide credible evidence to sustain his claims that his interactions with his lawyers were interfered with, and that he was denied unhindered access to his lawyers, and that Department of State Services (DSS) officials eavesdropped on his conversations with his lawyers, which constituted a breach of his right to fair hearing. 25 die, 53 injured in Kano trailer accident

Group: 80% of road crashes are human induced The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Kano Command has confirmed the death of 25 travellers, while 53 others were injured in an early morning auto crash. The incident occurred in the Dangwaro International Market, in the metropolitan area of Kano. The travellers were said to have been loaded in a trailer which also carried cows heading to the Southern part of Nigeria from Maiduguri. Muslim clerics oppose move to reduce powers of Sultan

The Muslim Ummah of South West Nigeria (MUSWEN) has condemned the alleged plot to depose the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar.   While cautioning the state government against such move, the faithful reiterated that the Sultan is not just a monarch, but the President-General of Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs and national leader of all Muslims in the country. FG terminates contracts with Mothercat, Dantata, others over non-performance

The Federal Government has terminated the contract for the dualisation of Obajana-Benin Road, section II (Okene-Auchi) in Kogi/Edo states, awarded to Mothercat Ltd, Dantata & Sawoe Construction and RCC Limited, with contract numbers 6136, 6137 and 6138, respectively. AGOA: Nigeria’s goods import soar to $47.5b

Nigeria has emerged the largest source of imports under the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA), with a total of $3.8 billion in the first half of 2024, as the major supplier of crude oil under the Act. This is an improvement from $3.6 billion in 2023 and up from $1.2 billion in 2021. This was contained in the 2024 biennial report on the implementation of the AGOA, released by the office of the United States Trade Representative yesterday.
