Royal Air Maroc Fails To Compensate Nigerian Passenger Three Years After Losing Luggage Worth N10m

Royal Air Maroc

Royal Air Maroc has failed to compensate a passenger, Adebola Lawal, despite its inability to account for his luggage three years after he boarded the airline’s flight from Lagos, Nigeria to New York, United States of America.
SaharaReporters gathered that Lawal boarded Royal Air flight JFKAT12589 on the 27th August, 2017 and was allotted seat number 7183608930, thinking his luggage had been loaded.

However, when the flight touched down in New York, his luggage worth over N10m, which was duly checked in at the departure in Lagos, was discovered missing.
A source familiar with the incident told SaharaReporters that Lawal complained to the airline officials, who gave him the necessary documents to endorse and give description of items contained in the missing luggage and pledged to help retrieve the missing luggage.
But months later when the airline could not produce his luggage, the Ondo-based pharmacist wrote the airline through his lawyer in a letter dated 31st October, 2017.
Upon receiving the letter, SaharaReporters gathered that Royal Air Maroc promised to take steps to rectify the problem which was not done.
The airline however in a letter dated 5th March, 2018 admitted it lost Lawal’s luggage and offered to pay the sum of $920 (about N350, 000) as full compensation to him.
SaharaReporters gathered that the passenger rejected the offer and described it as ‘grossly inadequate’.
Items in the luggage included 30 pairs of designer shirts and polo shirts to the tune of N1,200,000.00, 20 pairs of “Atiku” fabric for male to the tune of N2,400,000.00, 2 Rolex wristwatches to the tune of N900,000.00, 10 Indian female wears to the tune N3,000,000.00.
Other items were dry fish and dry skin, both to the tune of N200,000.00, 15 pairs of trousers and 2 belts to the tune of N500,000.00, 1 Givenchi perfume to the tune of N70,000.00, 10 female designer bags (D & G) to the tune of N500,000.00, 4 pairs of designer shoes (unisex) to the tune of N230,000.00, 25 pairs of jean trousers of mixed colours to the tune of N500,000.00 and 2 gold chains (necklace) to the tune of N1,000,000.00.
Lawal however declined to comment when contacted by SaharaReporters.
“Who told you about it? I have no comment currently because the matter is in court. Thank you,” he said.

The lawyer said he had been unable to visit members of his family living in Itasa, a town in Iwajowa Local Government Area for the past one year over fear of being attacked.

Owing to several violent attacks by armed kidnappers and bandits, I have not been able to visit members of my family living in Itasa, in Iwajowa Local Government Area of Oyo State for the past one year.

“The several appeals made by concerned citizens to the respondents to halt the violent attacks on the people living and/or working in the aforementioned local government areas of Oyo State have been ignored without any justification. The respondents have failed to provide the persons living and/or working in the said local government areas of Oyo State with security to protect their lives and property.
He added that unless the reliefs sought by him in this application are granted, “insecurity, menacing threats to life and property in the aforementioned local government areas of Oyo State will continue unabated”.
“I have been actively involved in efforts to ensure peaceful co-existence between herders and the host community in Itasa but influx of herders who are not known to the resident Fulanis in Itasa has reduced the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to nothing but a paper tiger in the absence of government involvement in such mutually agreed framework for peaceful co-existence initiated by communities,” he said.
“Herein attached (and marked Exhibit 1) is the MoU dated 15th August 2017, which I helped to prepare pro-bono and which the host community and Fulanis resident in Itasa executed. The respondents will not be damnified in any manner if the reliefs sought by me are granted by this Honourable Court.”

E2%80%99s-visit-%E2%80%93 Six People Killed By Fulani Herdsmen In Ogun Community To Retaliate Against Igboho’s Visit – Lawmaker

The people of Ketu communities in the Yewa North Local Government area Ogun State have had to face reprisals by killer Fulani herdsmen following the visit of self-acclaimed Yoruba activist, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, to the area.
Igboho recently went to the Eggua community in Ogun State to help flush out killer herdsmen, leading to the burning of the residence of the Seriki Fulani of Eggua, Adamu Olooru.

A section of the market where Fulani settlers sell their cattle in the community was also burnt and many cows were said to have gone missing.
SaharaReporters gathered that the area has not known peace since Igboho’s visit.
It was learnt that killer herdsmen invaded Owode Ketu community, attacking villagers around 5am on Thursday.
The incident was confirmed by the House of Assembly member representing Ketu Constituency, Wahab Haruna Abiodun, who said in a statement, “It is so sad that Ketu Constituency is bathing in the blood of constituents.
“Fulani herders attacked Owode Ketu in Eggua ward and killed no fewer than six people, leaving scores seriously injured.”
The lawmaker said two farmers, after being macheted, were thrown into Yewa River along Eggua Road from a bridge.
“This was a reprisal attack by herdsmen as they came in hundreds following the visitation of Sunday Igboho to the area,” he said.
Abiodun urged Governor Dapo Abiodun to instruct the police commissioner and other security agencies in the state to act swiftly in securing the area so that the issue will not escalate further.
He said, “This is the time we need the Amotekun Corps to come out and support the Nigeria Police Force.”
The incident comes barely four days after the killing of a farmer, Dele Olowoniyi, by suspected Fulani herdsmen in Yewa axis of the state
There has been no response from the Ogun Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, over the recent incidents.

E2%80%99t-be-banned-trekking-should-make-their-children-do-it-%E2%80%93 People Saying Herdsmen Shouldn’t Be Banned From Trekking Should Make Their Children Do It – Ganduje

Kano Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.

The Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, has said a ban should be placed on Fulani herdsmen coming in from other countries.
According to the governor, the foreign Fulani herders are the ones who commit crimes while their Nigerian counterparts get blamed for them.

Kano Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.

He said, “There are three categories of Fulani. There are Fulani, there are herders and their foreign Fulani herders who commit crimes.
“It is often forgotten that there are foreigners among those Fulani herders but nobody is talking about them. The moment a foreign Fulani herder infiltrated into Nigeria and committed a crime, he would be considered as Nigerian Fulani. Therefore, it is time to ban them from entering Nigeria.”
He also said a bill should be passed by the National Assembly to resolve the farmers/herders’ conflicts.
“Those herders travelling from the North to South should be banned from doing so. Those that are saying they should not be banned from trekking to the southern part of the country for grazing should use their children to do so.
“This is a national issue. A robust bill by the National Assembly is the only answer to the issue of farmers/herders’ conflict,’’ Ganduje said.
He also faulted the recent comment made by Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, on the security situation in the North-West region.
El-Rufai had recently stated on BBC Hausa service that lack of synergy among governors of the North-West was hampering security efforts in the region.
However, speaking on Radio France International in Kano on Thursday, Ganduje said El-Rufai might not understand the security efforts put in place by the governors of the area.
According to Ganduje, security agencies in the country had advised Kano, Kaduna and Bauchi states to collaborate and check security challenges in the notorious Falgore forest in Tudun Wada and Doguwa LGAs of Kano State.
“The issue of lack of synergy does not arise in this context because security agencies have advised us to come and meet with Kano, Kaduna and Bauchi states to see how the activities of bandits in Falgore forest could be contained.
“I intimated both governors of Kaduna and Bauchi. Both had sent their delegations.
“There was the issue of the funds. Kano, Kaduna and Bauchi had all donated their funds and the exercise was eventually successful.
“The way I see it, the governor did not understand security issues well because the security situation depends on the nature of a state. For instance, no matter how we strongly collaborate as governors, how should we check ethnic clashes in Kaduna? How should we check religious differences in Kaduna? You see, this is a problem that can only be checked by the Kaduna State government itself.
“Therefore, any security issue in a state depends on the efforts of the state government, the federal government, the security agencies and the people of the state.
“For instance, in Kano, we have a harmonious working relationship with security agencies. We have state-of-the-art security gadgets. In Dansoshiya forest, we are building houses to accommodate Fulani herders in a bid to stop them from grazing in the southern parts of the country.
“In Falgore forest, there is an ongoing project of a military training camp. In the project, there is a provision for areas where Fulani herders would be accommodated.
“We have enough places to accommodate Fulani herders in Dansoshiya and Falgore forests. To restrict them into those places in order to prevent them from grazing in the southern part of the country is the only panacea to the lingering crises.”

Cambodia Police Arrest Two Nigerians Over Online Scam

Two Nigerians, Kingsley Obinna Nweazura and Emma Eke Onyechere, have been arrested by the Anti-Cyber Crime department of the Cambodia Police over an online scam.
The suspects were arrested in Phnom Penh for allegedly duping several people on social media by using false identities.

The National Police Chief, General Lieutenant Neth Savoen, said the suspects were arrested after the police received several complaints from some of their victims.
The suspects have been reportedly sent to the Phnom Penh Municipal Court for legal action.
Meanwhile, the director of the Anti Cyber Crime department has reminded citizens to be careful when using social media sites.
“Please don’t accept friend requests from people that you don’t know, and don’t trust any scammer who claims to send stuff from overseas and they demand the shipping fee in advance,” he stated.
Nigerian nationals have a history of running afoul of the law in the Asian country.
Last September, four Nigerian nationals and a Cambodian woman were arrested in Phnom Penh over an alleged scam and money laundering.
According to reports, the suspects ‘convinced’ some Cambodian citizens to open bank accounts for them which they used for money transfer.
Also, in March 2020, four Nigerian men were arrested in Cambodia, for alleged online fraud.
The suspects were also arrested for kidnapping.
It was gathered that they were caught during a search and raid by Deputy Prosecutor Seng Heang and his team in collaboration with the Ministry of Interior in a condominium ( Zong Ruby) in Sen Sok district, Phnom Penh.
The four nationals were wanted in connection with a case of kidnapping in Vietnam
Police confiscated 3 passports, 4 laptops, 8 cell phones, one SIM card number, one yellow metal cord, 15,000 riel and US $5, and two bags found with the suspects.

There’ll Be Suya Feast When Next Herdsmen’s Cows Invade My Home, Soyinka Warns

Nobel laureate, Prof Wole Soyinka, has criticised the Ogun State Police Command for denying that cows invaded his building in Abeokuta, Ogun State, warning that there would be a Suya feast If such happened again.
Soyinka on Thursday stated that he would invite the police to join the feast as there “will be no lack for cadaver affirmation.”

In a reaction titled, “Mad cows and madder narratives,” the Nobel laureate from Kemta Housing Estate, Abeokuta, noted that it was unprofessional for the police to deny an incident that had photographs and other obvious proofs.
He said, “For those who truly seek details of the Ijegba incident, I hereby affirm that I was never physically attacked, neither did I attack any cows. The cows and herders did however attack my property – and not for the first time.
“The police need to be very, very careful, learn to be straightforward with public information. Failure to adhere to that obvious, basic form of conduct means that the public will lose total confidence in security agencies and constantly bypass them in times of civic unrest, no matter how trivial or deadly. How on earth could the police claim that my property was not invaded by cattle? It was.
“My groundsmen knew the drill and commenced the process of expelling them. Fortunately, I was then driving out and was able to lend a hand by vehicle manoeuvering. Both cattle and herdsmen were flushed out of my property.
“Once they were outside the gates, I came down from the vehicle and beckoned the herdsmen to come over. At first, they pretended not to understand, then, as I approached, they fled into the bush. We thereupon ‘arrested’ the cows, confining them to the roadside, while I sent my groundsman, Taiye, to the police to come and take over.
“Since they took rather long in responding, I summoned a replacement and proceeded to the police station. On the way, we met a detachment, turned round, and together we returned to the scene of the crime.”
Soyinka noted that the police wanted to commence combing the bush for the herders but he stopped them, asking them to keep the cows and the owners would show up, which was what happened.
“I thoroughly resent the police version which suggests that the cows never invaded my home: home is not just a building, it includes its grounds. And it was not a stray cow, or two or three. It was a herd – we have photos, so why the lie? It is so unnecessary, unprofessional and suspiciously compromised.
“The police suggest that I have nothing better to do than to go accosting cows on the public road – to what end?
“If the police demand proof, the next time such an invasion takes place, I warn that there will be no lack for cadaver affirmation and the police will be officially invited to join in the ensuing Suya feast. So please, let us get serious.”
He added that the menace of “cattle imperialism under any guise is an obscenity to humanity.”
“So, let me serve notice that we are about to commence a process of public sensitisation; we hope even the police will join hands with the agenda as it progresses.
“A special practical plea: now that the railways are being resurrected, let us make cattle wagons a priority. I grew up with the regular sight of those practical conveyances. It is time to bring them back,” he concluded.
Cows had been reported to have invaded the residence of the Nobel laureate on Wednesday – an incident which drew condemnation from various groups and quarters, although the police in Ogun denied the incident, saying it was a case of straying cows.
