Pope Apologises For Slapping Devotee

Pope Francis apologised on Wednesday for his widely-viewed slap of a woman, who had grabbed his hand as he greeted Catholic faithful on New Year’s eve.
The image of Francis slapping his way free from the clutches of the admirer was an instant hit on social media.
A personal apology followed.
He said, “We lose patience many times.
“It happens to me too. I apologise for the bad example given yesterday.”
Pope Francis had greeted children before the Nativity scene on Saint Peter’s Square and was turning away when the woman, who had crossed herself then cried out something, pulled on his hand and almost caused him to fall.
The 83-year-old grimaced before managing to break free by slapping her hand twice.
He continued his tour, walking with some difficulty while maintaining a slightly greater distance from visitors, and gradually relaxed again as he came into contact with other children.

Nigeria Named Among Countries Where Journalists Were Killed In 2019

Nigeria has been listed among countries where death of journalists and media professionals occurred in 2019.
While over 19 journalists were harassed, assaulted, brutalised, arrested and detained in 2019, a reporter was killed in the country.
The death of Precious Owolabi, a reporter attached to Channels TV, sees Nigeria emerging the least country with record of death of journalists.
Recall that the detention of Agba Jalingo was recorded in the November list of One Free Press Coalition of the most urgent cases of threats to press freedom suffered by journalists around the world.
Student journalists are also facing attack and intimidation by various state governments with the growing repression of media space in the country.
The IFJ recorded 49 killings of journalists and media professionals in 2019, a significant drop from 95 in 2018.

The IFJ listed 18 countries from the world where journalist were killed since the start of the year.
The Federation says that while the apparent decreasing bloodbath in the journalists’ community is a welcome relief, the spread of killings and the motives behind the killings are sobering reminders that violence against journalists is still rampant and failure to combat impunity for these attacks remain a damning indictment on those in power.
“Africa (9), Asia Pacific (12), Europe (2), Latin America (18) and the Middle East and Arab world (8). The Federation also recorded six work-related accidental deaths in Tanzania (5) and the United States (1).
“The death toll is the lowest since 2000, when 37 journalists and media staff were killed, but the causes of the loss of life during 2019 remain largely the same,” said IFJ President, Younes Mjahed.

NUPENG Pickets Chevron In Warri Over Sack Of Workers

Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas workers on Wednesday picketed the premises of Chevron in Warri, Delta State, over the sack of some workers.
According to reports, the decision to terminate the workers’ appointments was based on their decision to join the oil union and fight for better working conditions and welfare.
National Public Relation Officer, Cojent Ojobo, told SaharaReporters that the company resorted to intimidation since the workers opted for unionisation to fight for their rights.
He said, “The picketing is in reaction to the inhuman sacking of our members on New Year’s eve by Chevron Nigeria Limited. Two of the workers are currently receiving treatment for trauma.
“My prayer is that we do not get instructions to stop loading of fuel as well as its distribution.”
The said workers have remained contract staff for over 20 years, according to findings by our correspondent.

We Are Dying Of Hunger, Delta Retirees Cry Out

Retirees in Delta State under the umbrella of Delta State Association of Contributory Retirees, have said they are dying of hunger following the inability of the state government to pay their pension benefits due them.
Addressing a press conference in Asaba, the state capital, Chairman of the association, Isaiah Agbaka, represented by his vice, Anthony Osanekwu, appealed to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to save their souls from penury and untimely death by paying their pension benefits based.
He said, “We are also crying to the world to assist us to plead with the state government to have a human face and hear our demand of paying pension benefits. So many of our members have died as a result of non-payment that has led to starvation among others.
“All pension reform acts both federal and Delta State stipulates expressly that a worker upon retirement should not earn less than 50 per cent of his last salary before retirement. The current payment based on N7,500 has placed us at a disadvantaged position.
“We are vehemently opposed to and reject the inclusion of Governor Okowa’s aides, Syvester Monye and Kingsley Emu, in the present committee.
“The constant involvement of these individuals and setting up of several committees tend to portray an element of government gimmicks of circumventing the payment of N18,000 harmonised pension.
“The state government should invite PENCOM to the committee as well as the two actuarial valuers to put an end to this issue of harmonised pension.”
The retirees urged Governor Okowa to involve NLC, JNC, TUC and ACR in the present committee since they were part of the committee that submitted the acceptable working report of the moment.

E2%80%93lulu-briggs%E2%80%99-widow-seinye Real Reason My Stepson Is Against Me –Lulu-Briggs’ Widow, Seinye

Seinye, widow of founder of Moni Pulo Limited, High Chief Olu Benson Lulu-Briggs, on Tuesday opened up on the reason her stepson, Dumo Lulu-Briggs, has had disagreements with her along many fronts.
In a statement through her spokesperson, Oraye St. Franklyn, the widow stressed that Dumo plans to rubbish her husband’s legacy and undermine his last will and testaments.
Her comments follow a publication on Facebook on December 30, 2019 by Uche Woke known as Uchman Dela Rosa on Facebook.
Woke, who is a media aide to Dumo, alleged that Seinye was responsible for the death of her husband. But to debunk that claim, the widow has now released some documents to show that those talks were targeted at maligning her person.
The statement reads, “The outrageous publication published on Facebook on December 30, 2019 at 12:20pm by Uche Woke (who goes by the sobriquet: Uchman Dela Rosa on Facebook), a media aide to Dumo Lulu- Briggs alleging that Dr Mrs. Seinye O. B. Lulu-Briggs murdered her husband, smuggled his remains to Ghana and deposited same in Ghana in the absence of his children is a false and malicious publication that defames her. She and her husband were on the trip to Ghana on the said date December 27, 2018 with two of his sons and a host of other persons. She believes that it is shameful that a chief would allow his media aide to refer to his father as dead at a time he knew he was well alive.
“The said publication further states that the widow of High Chief O. B. Lulu-Briggs went to court to stop the children of the deceased from accessing the body of their father, her husband, for burial; that she hurriedly organised an autopsy without following all lawful procedures and guidelines meant to guarantee transparency that was ordered by the court; that being concerned about wealth, she read a certain ‘Will’ before burial, relocating companies and packing properties belonging to O. B. Lulu- Briggs to unknown destinations.
“Dr Seinye Lulu-Briggs categorically states that all allegations in the said publication are untrue and part of a wicked plot by Dumo Lulu-Briggs to cast her in bad light and stigmatise her person as a wicked widow with the primary aim of rubbishing her husband’s legacy and undermining his last Will and Testaments.
“Dr Seinye Lulu-Briggs recalls that the trauma suffered by High Chief O. B. Lulu-Briggs in standing in the dock as an accused person, watching his son and friends prosecute him for fraud and trying to wrestle the company he founded from him over two decades ago was enough to have killed him. Fortunately, the great man survived that, including serial heart attacks, lived for many years after and continues to live on today in the hearts of those who love him.
“Dr Seinye Lulu-Briggs is amazed at the character of a son who transfer documents to his father who at the time was battling a heart attack in order for the ill man to sign over his shares to the son as he (the father) was being rushed overseas for treatment. What other purpose could that have been for other than in anticipation of his father’s death? She is further amazed at the audacity of the son who would later refuse to handover the share transfer documents back to his father when God saved him and he survived the heart attack. For the High Chief to have survived that heart attack could reasonably have been quite upsetting for the conspiring sons as it complicated their plans. Perhaps, it is the same reason the son saw, addressed and consented to his aides address his own father as being dead while he was still alive.
“Beyond taking the necessary legal action to protect herself against the serial, ill conceited acts of libel and defamation by acolytes of her son Dumo Lulu- Briggs, she wishes to reiterate the following: Her husband, High Chief O. B. Lulu-Briggs, died in Accra, Ghana, on December 27, 2018 shortly after arriving for his annual vacation.
“All seven children of the deceased were at the mortuary on December 29, 2019. Thereafter the family including Dumo saw their father’s body at least two times. Dumo has not denied that he arranged with the managers of the mortuary to make a casket with which to convey the body of his father for burial. He and his elder brother, Senibo, returned to the mortuary and inspected the casket that was delivered there.
“The allegation that Dr Seinye Lulu-Briggs killed her husband, High Chief O. B. Lulu-Briggs, began after she was threatened by Dumo Lulu-Briggs, her stepson, right before his pastor that if she didn’t give him four legacy assets namely: Moni Pulo Limited, Sombriero House (her matrimonial home), Rachael Hotel and the O. B. Lulu-Briggs Foundation, he would go public with an allegation against her that she killed her husband.
“Dr Seinye Lulu-Briggs told Dumo Lulu-Briggs that he knew she didn’t kill her husband and that what he wanted would mean setting aside her husband’s will.
“She reiterate that she told him that she had no powers to do so, that moreover the will provided for the well-being of his children, grandchildren and future generations, of whom Dumo’s first son, is the only grandchild mentioned by name and bequeathed with a property in the will.
“She however, agreed to gift 50 per cent of her shares in Moni Pulo Limited to all seven children of High Chief O. B. Lulu-Briggs, which Dumo demanded for himself alone. He accepted the offer and later declined it in writing.
“Dr Seinye Lulu-Briggs also told Dumo that most of his father’s assets were bequeathed to a trust that he had set up by himself during his lifetime. As such, she had no powers to cancel the trust and or redistribute the said properties as Dumo would have wished.
“Failing to satisfy his untoward and unreasonable demands, Dumo Lulu- Briggs wrote a petition to the Nigerian Police Force falsely alleging that she killed her husband.
“Dumo Lulu-Briggs approached both the police and a Magistrate Court in Ghana to organise an autopsy that did not provide representation for Dr Seinye Lulu-Briggs, who is accused of murdering her 88-year-old husband.
“To protect herself and ensure the autopsy process was fair to all parties involved, she went to court to ensure the autopsy process provided and guaranteed representation for her, her accuser Dumo Lulu-Briggs, the Nigerian Police and the Ghanaian Police and it was done.
“Dr Mrs Seinye Lulu-Briggs and Dumo Lulu-Briggs had two representative pathologists each. The President of the Nigerian Medical Association, Dr Adedayo Faduyile, was one of Dumo’s representative pathologists. To this day none of all the six pathologists involved in the autopsy, including Dumo’s representatives, has queried the process which was conducted by the Ghanaian Military at the 37 Military Hospital in Ghana.
“The Ghanaian Police in a letter responding to a needless protest by Dumo Lulu-Briggs given that the process didn’t go as he would have wanted (ie. as a private autopsy) confirmed to him that the autopsy was done according to the set standard.
“The autopsy report is now being blocked by Dumo Lulu-Briggs from being released. He has instituted an appeal against its release.
“Dr Seinye O. B. Lulu-Briggs has not moved a single property to any unknown location and has no need to do such.
“She has no desire to stop the burial of her husband. Her appeal against the judgment that ordered the Ghanaian Police and the mortuary to release her husband’s corpse for burial was because Dumo went to obtain the body without complying with any of the pre-conditions imposed on him by the court. She maintains that if he complies with the court-ordered pre-conditions, her appeal will be withdrawn.
“Dumo Lulu-Briggs was ordered by the court to give the following binding unconditional undertakings: That the delegation led by Chief Dumo Lulu- Briggs that will convey the body of the deceased to Nigeria should include two representatives of the plaintiff/widow, who should be part of the delegation that will convey the body to Nigeria. That the family, led by Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs, will further undertake that the plaintiff/widow will be ably represented in the burial and funeral preparations, and will be allowed to play her role as a widow mourning her deceased husband.
“On June 3, 2019 Moni Pulo was invaded by the police based on a false petition written by Dumo Lulu-Briggs. Workers were assaulted and properties were destroyed in the cause of the invasion.
“Dr Seinye Lulu-Briggs now aged over 60 years, loved, lived with and cared for her husband for over two decades.”
Reacting to the matter, Woke, Lulu-Briggs’ spokesperson, said all the family wants was for things to be done the proper way as stipulated by law.
He said, “Pastor Seinye claims that she has done an autopsy and that she is in possession of the report, but the coroners court in Ghana where she is holding her husband’s remains ordered for an inquest because as they found out from the Ghana Police Service, the police guidelines were not followed and no such autopsy report has ever been sighted by the police authority.
“The children and the family of High Chief O.B Lulu-Briggs are not satisfied with that result given the obvious one-sided situation that tacitly excluded key persons and denied transparent monitoring from the opposing end.
“The children and family members reserve the right to seek for a transparent autopsy; and they are emphatic about having everyone including Pastor Seinye Lulu-Briggs tightly involved to ensure that the proper things are done.”
The prominent Abonnema, Rivers State, family has not had a smooth sail in recent times especially since the demise of their wealthy patriarch last year.
Efforts by high-ranking members of the society to wade into the crisis had not yielded desired results.

Happy New Year Mission At The Decade Of 2020 Perfect Vision By Hannatu Musawa

Hannatu Musawa

Hannatu Musawa

As we enter the start of this brand new decade, I will outline my thoughts in this rhyming cascade.
****************************************
For a start, there is chaos and confusion is displayed. The world is divided; People seem to be afraid.
****************************************
From the start, 2019 came like a Nuclear Raid, With strain as Europe watched its unity fade.
****************************************
In America insubordination was so clearly laid, As the President continued to give his office a downgrade.
****************************************
In the World of entertainment, the fans felt betrayed, At the ending of Game of Thrones with Jon Snow’s blade.
****************************************
But those who watched Marvel enjoyed the Crusade. The ending of The Avengers was brilliantly made.
****************************************
In the Giant of Africa, the election heavily weighed, On the minds of Nigerians who diligently prayed.
****************************************
Men, women traipsed out and at the polling booth stayed. One person, one vote in hopes the result would be swayed.
****************************************
For APC, PDP and others, the tension was strained. The former was the victor but the vanquished complained.
****************************************
I’ve been to many a court. The election will be maintained! Now PDP will feel how in the past, other parties were pained.
——————————————————–
As we enter the decade of 2020 Vision, Let us make the decision of coalition our mission. As a race, put the condition of opposition in omission. And let go of derision, collision and division. At the volition of your intuition, use your resolution, To better your Self-Edition for your 2020 Vision.
——————————————————-
With his mandate at hand, the President pressed, For a Next Level Agenda as his primary quest.
****************************************
Determined not to let his legacy be messed, General gave a Ministerial List that nobody guessed.
****************************************
Ignoring intrigue, lobby and desperation expressed, By those who thought that they had him possessed.
****************************************
In the last administration, we were unimpressed, With those in the government that were devil infest.
****************************************
For four years they continued to leave people oppressed. They bastardized the movement Buhari’s followers blessed.
****************************************
It was hard to watch the destruction. We were depressed, With all those outsiders who weren’t part of the crest.
****************************************
To understand, one must go back before the 2015 bequest, When the true followers sacrificed in the mightiest test.
****************************************
For over a decade, they followed while they were oppressed. They shared the same values and their love their professed.
****************************************
Very few got appointment in the past four-year digest. It may explain why appointees still have not progressed.
****************************************
General, with hand on my chest, I make a solemn request; “Choose the best Nigerians from North, East, South and West!”
——————————————————–
Now internationally, there has been a global blight. The orange Oompaloompa in the States is given a fright.
***************************************
To have an Internet troll as President is an offensive slight. His Twitter-fingers always searching for someone to fight.
****************************************
But he met Armageddon while using his might, By trying to immorally force Ukraine to write.
****************************************
Trump is the third President to be impeached outright. It will go down in US history. His Ego will bite!
****************************************
Back in the Kingdom, Brexit continues its plight. It’s UK’s hugest mistake with benefit of hindsight.
****************************************
Although Boris is eccentric, he is sure not contrite. He gained a huge victory due to his foresight.
****************************************
Now Europe is in tatters. This just can’t be right. It’s the start of the end for a Union once bright.
****************************************
Another huge scandal was Epstein’s sick plight, Of trafficking girls and keeping them in his sight.
****************************************
But he chose suicide in a jail cell at midnight. Prince Andrew and others may fall for the same appetite.
****************************************
Since the global narrative is the immigrant’s-despise. Let us each please fix our countries. I’m being quite trite.
——————————————————–
Coming back to Nigeria, where we are still in a knot, The Rule of Law was tested and it amounted to naught!
****************************************
I honestly say this because in Law School I was taught, The State must obey court orders without an afterthought.
****************************************
One case that is in point is when Sowore was caught, While calling for a protest using ‘Revolution’ as a mascot.
****************************************
He was kept till the West demanded for him to be brought. By the time he was eventually released, the system was fraught.
****************************************
Another conundrum was on Dasuki’s apparent onslaught. For years nobody saw him and thus thickens the plot.
****************************************
Was he kept like in the Holocaust or kept in a nice spot? Now that he has been released, the story will be sought.
****************************************
Then there is Zakzaky who we thought was left to rot. But we learnt from his mouth he is in a great place to squat.
****************************************
In other news up in Kano, Ganduje continues to take a shot, At Sanusi, the Emir in a bid to remove him from his slot.
****************************************
Even for a Layman, we know that Excellency you cannot, Continue demystifying a sacred Emirate as if it were a bottom pot.
****************************************
2023 Politics has started and if you read the subliminal report, Is the North trying to be shifty by playing a game of Argonaut.
****************************************
Look, even if Arewa has the numbers, APC should not boycott, The Gentlemen agreement made or APC will be distraught.
——————————————————–
Now it is no big secret that we have so much on our tray. Starting with the lack of security Nigerians face everyday.
***************************************
No longer do robbers just operate on the highway. These days, kidnappers come into homes to take us away.
****************************************
We are just sitting ducks, we are the target, we are prey. That is why between Abuja and Kaduna, most take the railway.
****************************************
One cannot leave out the Politics our leaders portray, Where the individual interest seems to often outweigh.
****************************************
We really cannot make headway if all that is on display, Is politics where “Me, Myself and I” becomes our mainstay.
****************************************
To be honest, it is not everyone that is part of the decay. It is just that those with honor are countable in this soiree.
****************************************
As we approach the next election, there is so much at play. People are positioning to take over according to hearsay.
***************************************
APC had a Gentleman Agreement, which they should not betray. Power must be allocated to the South or it will be foul play.
——————————————————–
As we face a new frontier in this baby New Year, I urge all Nigerians to adhere to volunteer. To steer and be near what is good and sincere. To cheer for our nation, so it can persevere.
****************************************
The smear of Nigeria has been quite severe. We are known as the scamming and 419 pioneer.
****************************************
To add insult to injury, it does thus appear, Our nation has been added to the terrorism sphere.
****************************************
Our forefathers fought to clear our atmosphere, From the disunity, destruction we see in our veneer.
**************************************** A
Zik, Sardauna, they were the pioneer, Of this beautiful land; our greatest souvenir.
****************************************
Balewa and Macaulay did diligently commandeer, In nurturing this nation so that each of us can cheer.
****************************************
Eyo Ita and Ikoku stood up to shape the sphere, Of the evolution of this country so we could profiteer.
****************************************
Enahoro and Sir Udoma continued to, thus, appear, Whenever we were taking the wrong and backward gear.
****************************************
Osadebay and Joseph Tarka were always quite severe, In protecting Nigeria from any negative interfere.
****************************************
Chief Ajayi and Awoniyi were the opposite of insincere. They were each what you would call progressive engineer.
****************************************
When I think of Aminu Kano, for me, it brings a tear. He wanted poor Nigerians to smile from ear to ear.
****************************************
For our forefathers let us make sure we strongly reappear. Let us be the greatest nation in the Northern Hemisphere.
**************************************** D
fellows, dear comrades, Nigerians far and near, Don’t tear up, let’s gear up, let’s be austere, and let’s cheer.
***************************************
Let’s fight for our nation, without favor, without fear. Let’s clear misconceptions and make them disappear.
****************************************
From the North to the South and the middle; front and rear, Nigerian’s are one, we are peer, and none should domineer.
****************************************
As we usher in the decade of 2020 perfect Vision here, Let us leave bad energy and chakra to go with yesteryear.

E2%80%98loot%E2%80%99-stop-blackmailing-nsima-ekere-niger-delta-youth-group-tells-akpabio $16m ‘Loot’: Stop Blackmailing Nsima Ekere, Niger Delta Youth Group Tells Akpabio

Niger Delta Youth Forum has described as untrue and blackmail reports linking former Chairman of Niger Delta Development Commission, Mr Nsima Ekere, with the $16m allegedly found in the account of Brig. Gen. Charles Nengite and his wife by authorities in the United States.
According to NDYF, the report is a ploy by Minister of Niger Affairs, Godswill Akpabio, to unjustly indict Ekere. In a statement signed by Dr Eket Udo, the group said there were deliberate attempts to bring down the former NDDC chairman.
The statement reads, “We see this report as another ploy to tarnish the image of Nsima Ekere by Akpabio who has embarked on vendetta against his perceived enemies using this Interim Committee of the NDDC.

“This is even more embarrassing and shameful giving the fact that the same Akpabio is facing several charges of corruption during his tenure as governor of Akwa Ibom and in order to evade prosecution he joined the ruling All Progressives Congress.
“However, our take is that the Federal Government must call Akpabio to order because his activities so far in using the NDDC interim committee to witch-hunt perceived political enemies will plunge the Niger Delta region into fresh crisis.
“We have discovered that the report was deliberately sponsored to paint Nsima Ekere in bad light.
“We advise Akpabio that rather than allowing himself being used by enemies of the Niger Delta to destabilise the region by hanging fake allegations against our leaders, he should meet with elders of the region and resolve his matter with any of these leaders he is fighting.
“The progress of the Niger Delta region must be paramount to him and not his personal interest.”
When contacted, a media aide to Akpabio told our correspondent that the minister had nothing to do with the allegations and was focused on attracting development to the Niger Delta region.
