I will not leave uncompleted projects — Lalong

Gov. Simon Lalong of Plateau has said that he will complete projects he initiated before he leaves office in 2023.
A statement by his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Dr Makut Macham, said that the governor made the pledge while inspecting ongoing “legacy projects” across the state.
“We want to complete the projects during our tenure to avoid the problem of abandoned projects.
“We decided to complete the projects we inherited, but you can’t be sure of what those coming behind us will do.

Yuletide: Hamper dealers decry low patronage in Enugu

Hamper dealers in Enugu on Tuesday decried low patronage of items as 2019 Christmas celebration draws nearer.
A NAN correspondent who visited the markets and shopping malls in Enugu metropolis, reports that many hampers in decorated raffia baskets and plastic bowls are yet to be sold.
The markets visited include Obgete Main Market, Garki Market, Kenyatta Market and some shopping malls.
Some of the dealers told NAN in separate interviews that they were disappointed over low patronage which they attribute to poor economic situation in the country
Miss Amaka Ijezie, a shop owner at Ogbete Main Market, said that the purchasing power of customers for hampers during yuletide had reduced due to harsh economic situation,
Ijezie said it was regrettable that she invested huge money into the business and was not making desired profit.

Bail: Presumption of innocence and right to liberty (2)

LAST week, I discussed the entitlement of Nigerian citizens to liberty, and particularly when charged with the commission of an offence, the right of the person to presumption of innocence and bail. This week, I intend to discuss the rather unfortunate trend in the prescription of very harsh, near impossible conditions imposed by judges in our courts for the grant of bail. FIRS gives 7 days notice to tax defaulters

The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS)  has served a seven-day notice to tax defaulters across the country.
The Head, Communications and Servicom Department, Mr Wahab Gbadamosi, made this known in a statement in Abuja on Tuesday.
Gbadamosi said the Acting Executive Chairman of FIRS, Mr Abiodun Aina, announced this in a notification letter to taxpayers on Tuesday.
He stated that Aina informed defaulters of the plan by the service to begin tax enforcement against them should they continue to fail in fulfilling their tax obligations.
