Kwara PDP calls for NGF intervention in House of Assembly’s imbroglio

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara state has called on the Nigeria Governors’ Forum to intervene in the crisis rocking the state house of assembly over an Appeal Court’s judgment that affirmed the PDP’s Jimoh Agboola as winner of the Ilorin South constituency’s elections.
The state chairman of the party, Engineer Kola Shittu said this at a crowded press conference held at the party secretariat in Ilorin.

Ibarapa East PDP opposes Obalowo, Odegoke as caretaker chairman, Sole Admin

Members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), in Ibarapa East Local Government Area of Oyo State, have kicked against the nomination by the governor of the State, Mr Seyi Makinde of Olugbenga Obalowo as the caretaker chairman in the local government and Mr Diji Odegoke as Sole Administrator, Ibarapa North East Local Development Area.
According to a statement jointly signed by Adekunle Waheed; Joseph Ayoade; Tajudeen Ayandele; Isack Adeyemi; Amusat Wahab; Soliu Rufai and Ismail Musbaudeen, party Chairman and Ward Chairmen respectively, a copy of which was made available to journalists on Tuesday morning, the party disagree with the nomination of Mr Olugbenga Obalowo, as Caretaker Chairman for Ibarapa East Local Government and Diji Odegoke as Sole Administrator, Ibarapa North East Local Development Area.

See 10 movies shortlisted for Oscar’s best international film award

Ten international films, including widely acclaimed offerings from South Korea, Spain and Senegal, are on the shortlist of movies vying for Oscar’s Academy Award nominations.
The best international feature shortlist announced Monday by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences includes Bong Joon Ho’s “Parasite,” Pedro Almodovar’s semi-autobiographical “Pain and Glory” and “Atlantics,” Senegal’s entry from history-making director Mati Diop.
In May, Diop became the first black woman to compete for the top prize at the Cannes Film Festival.

UK supports youth empowerment against terrorism in Nigeria with $78m

The United Kingdom says it is currently supporting initiatives to increase economic opportunities for marginalised youth in northern Nigeria with development funding worth nearly 50 million dollars (N15 billion).
Mr James Roscoe, the UK Ambassador on General Assembly Matters to the United Nations, stated this at a UN Security Council meeting on peace and security in West Africa, in New York on Monday.
Roscoe said the UK was providing additional 28 million dollars (N8.5 billion) in funding for projects to “reduce young people’s vulnerability to recruitment by violent extremist groups” in Borno.

Senate’ll okay Buhari’s $29.96bn loan bid — LAWAN

ABUJA—The Senate is now set to approve the USD30 billion loan requested by President Muhammadu Buhari. President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, who disclosed this yesterday in Abuja, justified the upper chamber’s position, saying the executive arm of government has provided the accompanying details, adding that the previous Senate led by Senator Bukola Saraki, rejected the request for lack of those details.

E2%80%95-edo-apc/ Oshiomhole should resign or excuse himself from official functions ? Edo APC

The Edo State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Anselm Ojezua, has accused former Governor of the state and suspended National Chairman of the APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole of lacking legitimacy, temperament and moral authority to lead the party.
Ojezua, who spoke during a World Press Conference at the APC Secretariat in Airport Road, Benin City, chronicled the role Comrade Oshiomhole played in the crisis in the state.
He noted that the state chapter of the party has come to the conclusion that Comrade Adams Oshiomhole lacks the capacity, temperament and moral authority to lead the Party as National Chairman, noting, “In any case, having been placed on suspension as a member of the party, he has lost the legitimacy to act in any capacity in the party.”

He added, “We draw particular attention to Article 21 of the Constitution of the Party which relates to the discipline of party members and the powers of respective organs of the party to take disciplinary actions against members.

Oyo Assembly receives list of LG caretaker chairmen, LCDAs

Oyo State House of Assembly has received nominated names of local government caretaker chairmen and administrators of Local Council Development Authorities.
According to the Speaker of the Oyo State legislative arm, Rt. Honourable Adebo Ogundoyin, all those announced are expected to appear before the House committee on local government and chieftaincy matters Tuesday 17 with 50 copies of their curriculum vitae (CV) for the purpose of screening and eventual confirmation.
