Samoa measles death toll rises to 73
At least 73 people, mostly children, have died in Samoa due to a measles outbreak since November, the Pacific Island government said.
According to the latest update on Monday from the Samoan ministry of health, 5,267 measles cases had been reported since the outbreak of the infectious disease.
As of Dec. 15, 93 per cent of the population has been vaccinated, according to the health ministry.
Earlier this month, Samoa conducted a door-to-door vaccination campaign in response to a measles outbreak, with a two-day shutdown of public services, commerce and road networks.

Bayelsa loses oil field to Rivers, as court orders correction of map error

The Abuja Division of the Federal High Court, on Monday, ordered Bayelsa State to hands-over Soku oil field to Rivers State.
The court, in a judgement that was delivered by Justice Inyang Ekwo, said it was satisfied that the oil field rightfully belonged to Rivers State.
It, therefore, directed the National Boundary Commission, NBC, to rectify an error in its 11th Edition of Administrative Map, wherein San Bartholomew River was in 2002, designated as the boundary between Rivers and Bayelsa States, instead of River Santa Barbara.

The Nigeria Police has forcefully gained entry into the premises of a textile company Nichemtex Limited, Ibeshe, Ikorodu, Lagos State where Hundreds of junior workers of the company have embarked on a peaceful demonstration for the past four days.
The protesters began a peaceful demonstration since late hours of Thursday over poor welfare condition, non-remittance of three years pension and non-payment of the 13th-month bonus among others but few minutes ago, it was gathered that the Nigeria Police from Ipakodo Division have employed the services of some artisans to forcefully removed the company’s gates to enable some Policemen gain entry into the premises of the textile company where the peaceful demonstration is taken place.

CCT: FG spends N52m in Jigawa LG
The Federal Government on Monday said it has spent over N52 million on vulnerable women in Guri Local Government Area of Jigawa under the Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) Programme.
Alhaji Abubakar Dan-Barde, Social Investment Programme Co-ordinator in the area, disclosed this to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Guri.
He said each of the beneficiaries received N5,000 each as stipend for November and December.
Dan-Barde, however, said 1,210 of the women, who were either pregnant or breastfeeding, received additional N10,000 each.
