Benzema salvages draw at Valencia with Clasico looming

Real Madrid missed the chance to replace Barcelona at the top of La Liga ahead of Wednesday’s Clasico but salvaged a 1-1 draw against Valencia as Karim Benzema scored a dramatic injury-time equaliser on Sunday.
Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois ventured up for a final corner at Mestalla and it was his header that caused panic in the Valencia box, before the ball fell perfectly for Benzema to strike in the 95th minute.
“Opponents can get a little nervous if I go up,” said Courtois.

Chinese TV pulls Arsenal match after Ozil’s comments on Muslims treatment

Chinese state broadcaster CCTV pulled a game between Arsenal and Manchester City from its programme after the Gunners midfielder Mesut Ozil expressed support for mainly Muslim Uighurs in Xinjiang.
Ozil, a German of Turkish origin, condemned China’s crackdown on Uighurs and other minorities in the western region in a tweet on Friday, while criticizing Muslim countries for failing to speak up against abuses.
Sunday’s Premier League game in London between Arsenal and Manchester City was initially scheduled to be broadcast live by CCTV’s sports channel shortly after midnight on Monday, according to an earlier schedule published on the league’s official Weibo account.

Tyson Fury splits with coach ahead of Wilder clash

Tyson Fury has split with his coach Ben Davison just two months before his rematch with WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder.
Davison had been Fury’s coach for the last two years but he revealed on Sunday that they have decided to part ways.
With the Briton’s clash against America’s Wilder looming on February 22, Fury moved quickly to hire Javan Hill as his new coach.
Davison confirmed the split on Twitter and insisted he remained friends with Fury while taking a swipe at Wilder.

Memphis Depay’s bid to play for the Netherlands in Euro 2020 suffered a huge blow on Sunday after Lyon revealed that their star attacker had torn the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee during Sunday’s 1-0 Ligue 1 defeat to Rennes.
