Nigerian-born British heavyweight boxer, Anthony Joshua, on Wednesday said that he will not celebrate if he defeats Andy Ruiz and regains his world titles during their rematch in Saudi Arabia on Saturday.
Joshua, according to the AFP, aims to win back the IBF, WBA and WBO titles that he lost to Ruiz in a shock defeat in June inside New York’s Madison Square Garden.
Joshua said he was “hungry, determined and focused” as he appeared alongside Ruiz in a press conference in Diriyah, close to the Saudi capital Riyadh.
He said, “I am not here to put on a show, I am here to win.
“When I regain those belts… I am going to keep calm, stay focused. It’s not a time to celebrate. It’s a time to keep that challenger mindset and move on to the next target.”

PEN International Calls For Release Of Sowore, Jalingo
PEN International, one of the world’s first international non-governmental organisations advocating for human rights, has decried the repression of freedom of expression and shrinking of civic space in Nigeria.
The first worldwide association of writers also called for the release of Omoyele Sowore, Agba Jalingo and all other journalists arrested in the line of duty in Nigeria.
PEN International also called on the Nigerian Government to uphold the right to freedom of expression enshrined in the constitution, by releasing journalists detained for peacefully expressing themselves via their work or activism.
“The detention of journalists such as Agba Jalingo, for what they have written is a worrying indication of the Nigerian authorities’ increasing intolerance of those who criticise the government or raise difficult questions about matters of public interest,” said Salil Tripathi, Chair of PEN’s Writers in Prison Committee.
“It is absurd that the authorities are prosecuting him; they should instead investigate the allegations he has raised and promptly release him without charge.
“As well as Jalingo, Omoyele Sowore, a high-profile journalist and publisher of the online news website Sahara Reporters, and a human rights activist, remains in detention in Abuja, the capital of Nigeria, despite a court order to release him and having met his bail conditions.
“The DSS has so far refused to release him on bail, despite two court orders to do so – the DSS have ignored a September court order ruling that he should be released pending his trial, and failed to comply with a November court order calling for his release once he had met his bail conditions.
“On November 12, journalists covering protests by activists calling for Sowore’s release outside the DSS headquarters in Abuja, as well as the protesters themselves were reportedly harassed and attacked by DSS officials.
“As a body of writers, we are concerned about the implications for the Nigerian people of these systematic acts of repression.”

E2%80%99s-death Ondo Police Yet To Reveal Identity Of Cop Behind Truck Driver’s Death
More than 72 hours after a policeman shot dead a truck driver along the Akure-Uso Road over the latter’s alleged refusal to offer a bribe, the police authorities in Ondo State has failed to reveal the identity of the killer cop.
While the name of the truck driver has been revealed as Ado Saleh, the police continue to shield the officer involved in the gruesome killing of the victim.
SaharaReporters gathered on Wednesday that the officer, who fired the shot that killed the driver, is a mobile policeman attached to the Ondo State Police Command.
When contacted over the matter, spokesperson for the police in the state, Femi Joseph, said he could still not reveal the identity of the killer cop.
Joseph disclosed that the police had begun investigation into the incident and had also apologised to family of the victim and general public.
He said, “The Commissioner of Police in the state has already instructed that an investigation should be launched into the incident.
“The command has also condemned the barbaric and gruesome murder of the driver in its entirety while we commiserate with the family of the deceased.”
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Bar Association in the Owo area of Ondo, has condemned the gruesome killing of the truck driver by the unidentified policeman.
The NBA in a statement by the branch Chairman, Tajudeen Ahmed, described as barbaric and unwarranted the killing of the driver, noting that the act was an affront on his constitutional rights to life and freedom of movement.
Ahmed said, “We condemn in strong terms the dastard act of the police officer that led to the death of a citizen.
“As an organisation whose major focus is ensuring the promotion of the rule of law, NBA Owo branch had always been concerned about the reckless, arbitrary and naked display of brutality by the policemen on Uso Road blocks.
“In some cases members of our branch have had cause to intervene whenever policemen on Uso Road blocks are out to harass, assault and dehumanise commuters.
“The killing of the innocent truck driver by the lawless, reckless and tactless police officer was the crescendo of the unsavoury acts of the policemen mounting road blocks at Uso.
“NBA Owo branch calls on the Ondo State police command to ensure that the culprit of this killing is made to face the full wrath of the law.”

Minimum Wage: Jigawa State To Commence Payment In December
The Jigawa State Government has said that it would start the payment of the N30,000 minimum wage to its workers in December.
Governor Muhammad Abubakar said this while signing the minimum wage payment agreement in Dutse, the capital, on Wednesday.
The governor, who was represented by deputy governor of the state, Umar Namadi, said, “I salute the NLC for understanding our situation and agreeing to what we’ve signed today.
“Also, I want to assure you that we will not fail you now as we haven’t failed you in the last four years.
“I am, therefore, directing the Head of Service and Secretary to the State Government to ensure the payment of the minimum wage in December salary.”
Workers from level 01 to 06 would receive N30,000 minimum wage, while level 07 and above would receive consequential increment of 23 per cent to 12 per cent, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.

Kano Police Arrest 79 Thugs, Six Suspected Kidnappers
The Kano State Police Command said it had arrested 79 miscreants, who are members of the ‘Yan Daba group terrorising the state.
Commissioner of police in the state, Mr Habu Sani, disclosed this while addressing journalists in Kano on Wednesday.
Sani said that assorted weapons as well as machetes and clubs were seized from the hoodlums.
He said, “About 79 miscreants popularly known as ‘Yan Daba were arrested with assorted weapons such as machetes, knives, clubs, cutlasses and other dangerous weapons.
“Others were 60 parcels of dried leaves suspected to be Marijuana and other large quantities of illicit drugs were also recovered from them.
“Two suspects were arrested in possession of Tramadol tablets valued at N2.4m while two others were nabbed in possession of 48 cartons of fake drugs.
“Seven vehicles were recovered and the suspects are giving useful information for more recoveries and arrest.”
The commissioner also revealed that six suspected kidnappers and four armed robbers were also arrested.

Transparency International Warns Governments Against Relying On Corporate Service Providers
Anti-corruption organisation, Transparency International, has warned governments across the world against relying on the assistance rendered by corporate service providers.
This follows a new investigation based on leaked documents showing the alleged role of a United Kingdom-based company formation agent in setting up and managing firms linked to fraud and criminal activity in multiple countries.
TI said that countries that rely on such firms for identifying company owners and vetting their sources of funds are at greater risk of money laundering and corruption.
The organisation noted that developing countries are at higher risk of falling prey to these organisations.
Research and Policy Expert at Transparency International, Maira Martini, said, “Company formation agents have been at the heart of scandals like the Panama Papers and Paradise Papers.
“This investigation appears to give us another example of how some corporate service providers have allegedly facilitated money laundering and criminal activity.
“Formation agents need to face tough consequences when they fail to conduct proper due diligence on their clients.
“Yet some countries have actually chosen to rely almost entirely on such agents to identify the real people behind companies and vet their funds. This is like the fox guarding the hen house.”
Corporate Service Providers are organisations that provide support services to business.
They find solutions to the customer problems and render services including financial, business advisory, tax and investment services.

N66m: EFCC Arraigns Mama Boko Haram For Fruad
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arraigned Aisha Wakil popularly known as ‘Mama Boko Haram’ over an alleged N66m fraud.
Wakil was arraigned alongside one Tahiru Daura on a three-count charge before the Borno State High Court, Maiduguri, on Wednesday.
EFCC is prosecuting Mama Boko Haram following a petition alleging that she collected maize grain worth N15m in 2018 but had refused to pay.
The maize was supplied to her by AMTMAT Global Ventures, whose managing director wrote the petition against her and her foundation, Complete Care and Aids Foundation.
Count two of the charges against her reads, “That you Tahiru Saidu Daura, while being a programme manager of Complete Care and Aid Foundation, and Aisha Wakil, being the CEO of Complete Care and Aid Foundation on September 7, 2018 in Maiduguri within the jurisdiction of this honourable court dishonestly induced Ali Tijjani, the CEO and alter ego of AMTMAT Global Ventures to deliver to you processed maize grains (biski) valued at N15m, which you are yet to pay and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 320(a) and punishable under Section 322 of the Penal Code Cap 102 Laws of Borno State.”
Mama Boko Haram and her co-defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Government Considers Issuing Arrest Warrant For Ifeanyi Ubah
The Nigerian Government is considering asking the Federal High Court in Lagos to arrest Ifeanyi Ubah.
The conflict between Ubah and his company, Capital Oil and Gas Industries Ltd, is over a N135bn debt owed the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria.
Prosecutors say the debt is the outcome of a 2013 consent judgment, which gave AMCON the power to seize assets belonging to Ubah and his company in order to receive the said sum.
The arrest threat was issued on Wednesday by the prosecuting counsel, Kunle Adegoke, following the failure of Ubah to appear before Justice Nicholas Oweibo.
According to charges laid by the prosecutors, Ubah and Capital Oil “made false claims in relation to the actual values of certain assets transferred to AMCON under the consent judgment delivered in suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/714/2012”.
PUNCH reports that the prosecution alleged that the lawmaker and his firm obstructed “the implementation of the provisions of the AMCON Act vis-a-vis the realisation of part of your outstanding debt of N135bn, by frustrating the sale of the landed property on Banana Island to Dayspring Development Company Limited, which property you both transferred to AMCON by virtue of the consent judgment delivered by this honourable court on July 1, 2013”.
The prosecutors contended that the defendants acted contrary to Section 54(5) of the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria Act, 2010 (as amended).
Defending the absence of his client in court, Olisa Agbakoba (SAN), said Ubah had not been served with the charges.
He noted that since it was about money, an amicable settlement plan was been sought by Ubah.
Bola Oluyede, who appeared on behalf of Capital Oil, said his client had been served but had filed a preliminary objection.
Adegoke had then responded with the threat to issue an arrest warrant.

Women Protest Killing of Female Politician, Salome Abuh, In Abuja
A group of women on Wednesday in Abuja took to the streets to protest the killing of the slain leader of the Peoples Democratic Party in Kogi State, Salome Abuh.
Abuh was brutally killed by suspected political thugs during the recent governorship election in Kogi.
The protesters, who converged at the National Human Rights Commission, demanded justice and speedy investigation into the immediate and remote cause of the incident.
The women condemned the poor handling of the investigation into the killing by the government.
They called on the police to expedite action and bring the perpetrators to book.
Executive Secretary of the NHRC, Tony Ojukwu, who received the protesters, promised to liaise with appropriate authorities on the matter.
He assured the protesting women of speedy action and justice on the matter.

E2%80%99s-emirates-bill Kano Assembly Divided Over Ganduje’s Emirates Bill
Members of Kano State House of Assembly are divided as they engaged in heated argument over passing the reactivated emirates bill in the state.
Governor Abdullahi Ganduje wants the state assembly to pass the bill establishing new emirates despite a court order nullifying the creation of four new emirates.
If passed by the assembly, the bill would aid Ganduje’s move in creating four new first-class emirs in the state.
The Assembly members were said to have spent almost three hours in a secret session debating the bill but failed to reach an agreement, TheNation reports.
The House adjourned the meeting till Thursday to continue debate on the issue.
