Nigerians With Dual Citizenship Cautioned Against Applying For E-passport

Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, has cautioned Nigerians with dual citizenship against applying for the e-passport.
Speaking at the Nigerian High Commission in Tokyo, Japan, during the launch of the e-passport, the minister told Nigerians with Japanese citizenship that a new visa regime that would grant them multiple entries into Nigeria up to the validity of their Japanese passports would commence soon.
He said, “I am aware that Japan does not accept dual citizenship, although Nigeria does. Because of this, I urge every Nigerian who renounces he or her Nigerian citizenship not to apply for the e-passport at this centre or anywhere.
“I will like to assure those Nigerian-Japanese who have accepted Japanese citizenship that a new visa regime that will grant them multiple entries into Nigeria up to the validity of their Japanese passports will commence soon.”
Aregbesola said the government had received several requests from both the Nigerian community and the Nigerian Embassy in Japan on the need to open a passport issuance centre in Tokyo due to the distance Nigerians had to cover in order to obtain one.
In response to these requests, Aregbesola explained that President Muhammadu Buhari, in his commitment to the citizens and ease of doing business, approved the issuance of both e-passports and biometric visa in Japan, according to a report by PUNCH.
He added, “Suffice to say that this provision and service is not limited to Tokyo, Japan; we will open another e-passport and biometric visa facilities in our embassy in Seoul, South Korea, bringing to a total of 44 foreign missions, 43 local and four front offices where Nigeria Immigration Service issues passports to our citizens.”

E2%80%99t-intimidate-falana-rented-protesters-ex-governorship-candidate-tells-nigerian You Can’t Intimidate Falana With Rented Protesters, Ex-governorship Candidate Tells Nigerian Government

Former governorship candidate in Ogun State, Ogbeni Lanre Banjo, has warned the Nigerian Government against intimidating human rights lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN).
Banjo on Saturday in a statement said the move to rent protesters against an individual showed the desperation of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration to silence all opposing voices.
He said instead of the President to focus on governance, he was glorifying trivialities.
Banjo said, “The recent elections in Bayelsa and Kogi states that took many lives presented Nigeria as a jungle.
“The President and his cohorts celebrating certificates illegally earned through the snatching of ballot boxes, on the blood of citizens they are in power to serve and destruction of properties certainly disrepute Nigeria in the comity of nations.
“As if these were not dangerous enough, the protest tagged ‘Femi Falana Enough Is Enough’, was staged by pawns to further disgrace the country.
“The protest mirrors an absurdity taken too far and presents the civilised world the opportunity to further see us as sub-human and our country as not part of the world.
“The fact that the State Security Service has not distanced itself from this eyesore act and the presidency has not condemned the senseless protest established the hands of Esau.
“This then begs the question of the type of country we are building, if we are building any at all.”
Speaking further, Banjo called on the government to release activists Omoyele Sowore and Olawale Bakare widely known as Mandate, who both remain in the detention of the Department of State Services despite two court orders directing their release on bail.

E2%80%99s-misery-continues Liverpool, Barcelona, Juventus Record Remarkable Wins As Arsenal’s Misery Continues

In major European football league matches played on Saturday, spectators and viewers around the world including in Nigeria were treated to all sorts of experience – good, bad and ugly.
For example, in the widely followed English Premier League, table toppers – Liverpool – fought a resilient Crystal Palace team to walk away 2-1 winners at the end of 90 minutes to keep their title hopes alive.
Goals from Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino delivered the maximum points for Jurgen Klopp’ side after Wilfried Zaha had scored an equaliser late in the second half.
In other parts of England, Leicester City where Nigeria’s Wilfred Ndidi is an integral member of the team, thrashed Brighton & Hove Albion 2-0 courtesy of goals from Ayoze Perez and Jamie Vardy.
But it was a different story for Arsenal Football Club of London as their troubles on the pitch continued on Saturday after they were held to a draw at home by Southampton.
The result could have been worse for Unai Emery’s side had the visitors converted all their chances inside the 18-yard box.
It took the artistry of Alexandre Lacazette late in extra-time to score the equalising goal for Arsenal and grab a point for them.
Following the team’s poor performance in recent times, Emery had come under intense pressure with many of the fans already losing faith in him and his ability to deliver long-awaited success after the departure of Arsene Wenger last season.
In Spain and Italy, Barcelona and Juventus both ground out important wins away from home against Laganes and Atalanta respectively despite strong resistance from their opponents.
Goals from Luis Suarez and Arturo Vidal gave Barcelona a 2-1 win over the host team while a double from Gonzalo Higuain and one from Paulo Dybala saw Juventus come from behind to emerge victorious.
Most top sides in Europe’s biggest football leagues were all busy on Saturday as a result of the resumption of the Champions League and Europa League between Tuesday and Thursday.

UPDATE: Warrant Of Arrest For Air Peace Founder Issued By US Court

A warrant of arrest has been issued against Allen Onyema of Air Peace for alleged money laundering and bank fraud in the United States, according to court documents seen by PREMIUM TIMES.
The warrant was signed by Justin Anand, an American magistrate of the United States District Court of the Northern District of Georgia, on November 19.
The warrant authorised US Marshals Service to take Onyema into custody.
Onyema’s whereabouts as of Saturday morning could not be confirmed but he was seen at Transcorp Hilton in Abuja on Thursday.
The US and Nigeria have a mutual legal assistance policy that allows both countries to extradite suspects facing criminal charges.
It was unclear whether the US authorities have sought an extradition of Onyema as part of efforts to execute warrant of arrest issued against him.
Onyema was indicted on Friday for allegedly laundering suspicious funds in excess of $20 million dollars in the US together with Ejiroghene Eghagha, Air Peace’s Head of Finance and Administration.
A warrant for the arrest of Eghagha was also issued by the US court.
Also, about $14m traced to Onyema’s bank accounts in the US and Canada have been frozen as federal authorities pursue a final forfeiture order.
The seizure came after extensive investigation of how the Air Peace founder allegedly conducted the fraud between 2010 and 2018.
Lawyers of both men have revealed that they would challenge the charges in court.

E2%80%93police Staff Of Ekiti Bank Caught On CCTV Looting Vault Minutes Before Robbery Attack –Police

Commissioner of Police in Ekiti, Asuquo Amba, has disclosed that CCTV footage recovered from a bank attacked by armed robbers in the state on Friday showed a staff taking money from the vault few minutes before the incident.
A policeman and a girl were shot dead by the robbers during the attack.
Amba told journalists that there seems to be a connivance between the bank staff and the robbers, who reportedly went away with over N25m.
He said, “The IGP has directed that there must be a very thorough investigation and that this mode of operation must be brought to fore,
“What baffles me is that there was nexus between the robbers and insiders in the banking premises. The Oye Police Division is about one or two poles from here. It was the first point of attack. The bankers confirmed that they heard the shots and it took about 10 minutes before the robbers arrived at the bank from there.
“Within the period, there were some activities that went on inside the bank. It is either there was strict connivance, or that the bank officials took advantage to carry out their own intention which an investigation would prove.
“Between the time the robbers attacked our men and the time the robbery took place, the staff had enough time to escape through the exit door. They were captured by CCTV moving in and out of the vault. The vault was even opened before the robbers came.
“Despite the opportunity, none of them made efforts to escape, they were stuffing money and there is evidence to prove this.
“The staff opened the vault by 3:05pm and the robbers blew up the security door at 3:12pm, this gave a strong suspicion that there was internal collaboration in this matter.
“A carton containing N2m was hidden under the table within the banking hall. This should be part of the loots from the strong room.”
