The United States Government on Saturday said 250 journalists were jailed around the world in 2018, with Turkey, China and Egypt among the worst offenders.
The assertion came in a statement by Spokesperson of the U.S. Department of State, Ms Morgan Ortagus, to mark the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes Against Journalists.
Ortagus also pointed accusing fingers at Iran, Saudi Arabia, Eritrea, Vietnam, Azerbaijan, Mexico and Nicaragua for imprisonment of media workers and bloggers.

EFCC arraigns two for N103m fraud
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Lagos office, on Friday November 1, 2019, arraigned one Arugba Micheal and his company, Gar Maritime Nigeria Limited before Justice Sherifat Solebo of the Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos on three-count charge bordering on conspiracy to steal, transfer of properties and stealing to the tune of N96, 400, 000.00 (Ninety Six Million, Four Hundred Thousand Naira).
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges when read to him.

LASEMA demolishes 4 two-storey buildings in Ikoyi for failing integrity test
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has pulled down four two-storey buildings under construction in Ikoyi for failing integrity test.
The LASEMA Director-General, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, made the disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Saturday.
According to him, the four buildings under construction at Glover Court, Ikoyi, were in the same compound where a building collapsed on Friday.
“The test was conducted by Solid Material Testing Agency, Lagos State Building Control Agency and the Ministry of Physical Planning.

Lagos Police arrest patrol van for disobeying traffic rule
…says they will be charged to court on Monday

The Lagos police on Saturday arrested a patrol van for driving against traffic rule in Lagos state.
According to Tunji Disu, the Lagos State Deputy Commissioner of Police, Commander, Rapid Response Squad, the faulters will be charged to court on Monday, 4th October for the offence committed.

The DCP wrote on Twitter “Driving against traffic, they have been arrested, vehicles kept at Idimu Police Station, they will go to court on Monday”.
