Russia to support construction of 1,400km rail track from Lagos to Calabar – Presidency

The Russian Government has agreed to support the development of Nigeria’s rail infrastructure by constructing 1,400 kilometres track from Lagos to the South-South city of Calabar.

According to Malam Garba Shehu, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, in a statement in Abuja, said this development was one of the agreements reached at a meeting between President Muhammadu Buhari and the Russian President, Vladimir Putin.
The bilateral meeting was held on sidelines of ongoing Russia-Africa Summit, in Sochi, Russia, on Wednesday.

Expert harps on community health education to sustain zero polio record

Dr. Asuzu Ujunwa, a medical doctor at Asokoro District Hospital, FCT,  stressed the need for increased community health education and sustenance of government policies to sustain Nigeria’s zero polio record.

Polio is a contagious viral disease caused by the poliovirus, which often leads to nerve injury, paralysis, difficulty breathing and sometimes death.
The international community is set to commemorate the 2019 World Polio Day on Thursday, Oct. 24, to raise awareness about the disease.

Sanwo-Olu signs $629m facility for completion of Lekki Deep Seaport

The Lagos State Government on Wednesday signed a $629 million facility with China Development Bank (CDB) for the completion of Lekki Deep Seaport Project.
Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who signed on behalf of the state government, said that he $629 million financing facility would accelerate the completion of the Lekki Deep Seaport project, which started in 2011.
In a statement, Sanwo-Olu said that the signing of the agreement ended period of uncertainty that had trailed the delivery of the Lekki Seaport project.

Police arrest 47 over alleged kidnapping, robbery in Nasarawa

The Police Command in Nasarawa State says it has arrested 47 persons suspected to be involved in kidnapping and armed robbery in the last three weeks.

Mr Bola Longe, its Commissioner, who paraded the suspects on Wednesday in Lafia, said that 38 of them were suspected kidnappers, while nine were suspected armed robbers.
He attributed the success in the fight against crime in Nasarawa State to the tireless efforts of the personnel of  “Operation Puff Adder,” an initiative of the Inspector-General of Police.

A Reproductive Health Expert, Mrs. Charity Ibeawuchi, on Wednesday urged Nigerian women to see Family Planning (FP) as a life-saving investment.

Ibeawuchi, Senior Technical Advisor-Advocacy, John Hopkin University, Centre for Communications Programme, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that Family Planning prolongs women’s lives and makes them look healthy.
The expert also of the Nigeria Reproductive Health Initiative (NURHI) said that the NURHI II project, which focuses on FP for women under the childbearing age, started in Nigeria in 2009.

Investor confidence in Federal Government of Nigeria’s Securities remained high at the FGN Bond Auction conducted by the Debt Management Office (DMO) on Wednesday, October 23, 2019, as reflected by the very high subscription level at the Auction.
The DMO o/ered three (3) Instruments (5-year, 10-year and 30-year bonds) with a total face value of N150.00 billion which were well received by investors.

Total subscriptions received from competitive bids for the instruments was N255.99 billion, indicating a subscription level of 171 per cent.

A late goal by substitute Michy Batshuayi propelled Chelsea to a 1-0 win at Ajax Amsterdam on Wednesday for a second Champions League victory in Group H after a fast and furious tussle at the Johan Cruijff Arena.

Manager Frank Lampard’s late replacements paid dividends as Batshuayi was set up by fellow substitute Christian Pulisic for the 86th-minute winner as Chelsea finished strongly.
