target=_blank>BREAKING: Gunshots As Security Agents Cart Away Result Sheets In Sokoto

Result sheets for Kebbe Local Government Area (LGA) have been whisked away by security agents, SaharaReporters has been told.
According to reports from the area, shots were fired to scare away voters, and the result sheets for Kuchi collation centre were carted away by the said persons.
Meanwhile, announcement of the results for other LGAs is ongoing at the state collation centre.
According to reports, Aminu Tambuwal, Governor of Sokoto State, had relocated to Kuchi on Saturday after claims there was a plot by the opposition party to disrupt the elections.
After the conclusion of voting, there was a directive that the ballot papers be transferred from Kuchi to Kebbe LGA. However, the voters refused the move and insisted that their votes be counted before the election officers left the venue.
Security officials resorted to shooting into the air to scare people off, before the result sheets were taken away.
Agents of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) were also not allowed to accompany the result sheets out of the area.
A large number of votes are expected from Kuchi.

Uthman
Aamil
2018: Groups protest Lagos Govt’s planned water privatisation

CNN

World Water Day is an annual event set aside to highlight the importance of freshwater and advocate for the sustainable management of freshwater resources. World Water Day is celebrated around the world with a variety of events.
According to a 2015 WHO/UNICEF report, 2.1 billion people globally lack safe water at home. Of those people, 263 million spend more than 30 minutes per round trip collecting water; 844 million do not have drinking water services, while 159 million drink water directly from surface sources such as streams or lakes.
World Water Day in Lagos
March 22 is World Water Day and it drizzled in Lagos; wet roads and roofs. Lagos is surrounded by lagoons, fresh and brackish water bodies everywhere that you would expect potable water to be plentiful for Lagosians. Instead, there is a water crisis in Lagos and it is not getting any better.
Troubling statistics from the United Nations (UN) show that only 10% of the 21 million residents of Lagos have access to water supplied by the Lagos State Water Corporation. To highlight the scale of the water crisis at the national level, WaterAid reported that about 73,000 Nigerians died from lack of access to running water in 2014, compared to 4,000 lives claimed by the terror campaign of Boko Haram.
Lagos is one of the states in Nigeria with the financial capacity or potential and abundant water resources to guarantee equitable potable water services for its citizens. However, the ‘mega city’ of Lagos, even after all these years spent by previous administrations and four years of the Governor Akinwumi Ambode administration, no government seems to have found it needful to pipe water to citizens still struggling to find water suitable for drinking and sanitation.
Ambode couldn’t solve the problem and in fact, late 2017, resorted to making a law to privatise water in Lagos, a move which was rejected by environmental activists in the state.
Meruwa Malam -The Men Gradually Replacing Water Corporation in Lagos

Uthman

For Uthman, a cart pusher selling water on the streets of Surulere in Lagos, the inability of the Lagos Water Corporation to supply water to residents in the area is an opportunity for him “to survive without having to beg”.
Speaking with SaharaReporters, Uthman said: “This is how I make money to survive without having to beg. I push a cart loaded with water gallons to different households and sell to them for N30 per gallon. It is a very stressful job and sometimes you risk getting hit by a car, but what choice do I have; I need to feed myself.”
Aamil, another water vendor, whom SaharaReporters met while he was delivering water to a customer in Lagos, said even when it rains, he still makes money, depending on the demand.

Aamil

“Sometimes, I make N1,500; sometimes N1,000 and even N500 at times, but it’s the only thing I do,” he said.
When asked about the activities of the Lagos Water Corporation, Aamil said: “To be honest, I’m not sure if I want them to be active again, but if I’m going to be selfless, I’ll say they should do more to provide water for the people.”
A resident of Shomolu in Lagos told SaharaReporters that water supply to some neighbourhoods in the state has been cut off for a while now.
“They do not supply us water. We pay them to fix pipes, but they do not provide enough pressure for the water to run up, so we still resort to paying extra fees to Meruwa to bring up water. Even the water from the Meruwa is not something I can drink. I still end up buying bags of sachet water. This is not fair because they bill us every month,” he lamented.
A resident of Ikorodu told our correspondent that the Lagos State Water Corporation is yet to extend its services to that part of the state, adding that most of the house owners had to dig boreholes to get water running.
“We’ve not seen the water corporation around here. Most of the landlords around here dig their own boreholes as it’s the only way to have water provided for your tenants,” he said.
When asked about the challenges faced by households with boreholes, he said: “The major challenge we face with boreholes is electricity. If there’s no light, we have to buy fuel to pump water and it’s not everyone that can afford to get fuel all the time. Some people around here have wells, so we’ll be glad if this water corporation people can extend their services to this area.”
Groups Ask Sanwo-Olu To Stop Ongoing Water Privatization Plans

2018: Groups protest Lagos Govt’s planned water privatisation

The Our Water, Our Right Movement led by the Environmental Rights Action/Friends of the Earth Nigeria (ERA/FoEN) has cautioned Babajide Sanwolu, the Lagos Governor-elect, against continuing on the path of previous administrations in the state on plans to privatise water in Lagos.
In a statement issued to mark the 2019 World Water Day, the movement said even though Lagos is surrounded by water, most of its citizens still lack adequate and safe drinking water and sanitation, which predisposes them to illnesses such as dysentery and cholera, with grave implications on productivity.
They, however, frowned at the fact that in tackling the water challenge, previous administrations including that of outgoing Governor Akinwunmi Ambode have not consulted Lagos citizens, and instead, advanced false solutions including the globally-discredited Public Private Partnership (PPP) model of water privatisation.
The letter, signed by Nnimmo Bassey, Chair of the Board of ERA/FoEN, read: “Lagos residents are victims of a system that has failed them for years due to lack of political will and lack of sustained budgetary allocation to the water sector. Lagos does not need to experience social conflicts, drown in debt, or hand our right to privatisers to tackle the water crisis.
“Evidence abounds that countries that have experimented the PPP and other models of water privatization have learnt bitter lessons and opted out by re-municipalizing – another word for taking back privatized public services and putting it where it should be – under public control.  Remunicipalisation of public water has spread across the world from Buenos Aires to Berlin, Ghana, Gabon, Jakarta, Mozambique, Paris, Tanzania, and lately nearby Cameroon.”
They warned that the PPP is “anti-people” because it is difficult for cities to exit, despite rate hikes, service cut-offs, and unfulfilled infrastructure promises.
They condemned the outgoing administration of Ambode, who has been reported to have begun concession talks with Veolia, Metito and Abengoa, which are allegedly “transnational corporations with track-record of corruption and human rights abuses”, adding that they had protested this move to the current state House of Assembly and compiled findings on the multinationals in a document entitled: ‘Veolia, Metito, Abengoa Cannot Be Trusted with Lagos Water’, which has been made available to the state government for it to backtrack.
In its recommendations to Sanwo-Olu, who will assume office on May 2019, ERA/FoEN demanded a halt to concession talks or agreements entered into with transnational corporations like Veolia, Metito, and Abengoa.
They also recommended the “need to fully uphold the human right to water as an obligation of the government representing the people; integration of broad public participation including that of women in developing plans to achieve universal access to clean water, and a review of the recent Lagos Environment Law and removal of all the remaining provisions that open the doors for PPP and other privatization forms.”
Others are: “rejection of all contracts designed by or involving the IFC, which operates to maximize private profit; building the political will to prioritize water for the people by investing in the water infrastructure necessary to provide universal water access, which will create jobs, improve public health, and invigorate the Lagos economy; increasing budgetary allocation to the water sector; and institution of a Water Trust Fund that will expand public financing of the water sector.”

target=_blank>I’ve Learnt My Lessons, Says Blood-Soaked Voter Who Survived Election Attack In Kano

Nasir Mansur Mohammed, one of the voters attacked in Kano State during Saturday’s supplementary elections, says he doesn’t think the “fraud called elections in Nigeria” is worth dying for.
Mohammed was attacked by thugs bearing weapons when he went to cast his vote at Santulma Primary School polling unit in Gama Ward.
According to his account, he was saved by “good Samaritans” and taken to the hospital where he spent three hours in admission.
His words: “Alhamdulillah. I survived. I was violently attacked by thugs at Santulma Primary School polling unit at Gama Ward in Kano today Saturday.
“I was saved by the grace of God and some good Samaritans, who also took me to Gwagwarwa hospital, where I was admitted for three hours, stitched and discharged. Is the fraud called elections in Nigeria worth dying for? I don’t think so. Lessons learnt.”

target=_blank>Those Against Atiku Going To Court Are Evil Minds, Says Obasanjo

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has berated those against the decision of Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to challenge the outcome of the February 23 presidential election.
He also commended the decision of the Osun Elections Petition Tribunal to declare Ademola Adeleke, the PDP governorship candidate in the state, as winner of the election.
According to Obasanjo, if Buhari could challenge his loss during previous elections, nothing stops Atiku from also going to court.
A statement issued by Obasanjo on Saturday read: “While I was in Dubai to attend the Global Education and Skills Forum meeting, I received the news of the judgment of the Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal declaring Senator Ademola Adeleke, the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), the winner of the 2018 Governorship election in the state.
“Let me take this opportunity to commend the tribunal for its courage in nullifying what was clearly an illegality. This action by the judicial officers, albeit a first step in the legal process, gives renewed confidence in the judiciary at a time when there are coordinated efforts by some political leaders to undermine, if not destroy, it.
“As I have repeatedly said, the world is watching events in Nigeria with keen interest. What we do or do not do right in our electoral process will have implications not just for Nigeria but for Africa and indeed the world. By correcting what was clearly a desperate attempt to change the will of the Osun people, the tribunal has saved Nigeria from great embarrassment and started the process of saving and strengthening our democracy.
“Let me also commend Sen. Adeleke for his statesmanship in going to court to seek justice. This is the right and proper thing to do in any decent society. Going to court must be encouraged and not discouraged as some people are now attempting to do.
“And if Buhari could go to court three times to seek justice, even without reasonable cause, any Nigerian who feels denied of justice must feel free to go to court.
“Those who have conceived and are promoting the narrative that if Atiku Abubakar continues to seek legal redress there will be violence, are evil minds looking for excuse to unleash violence on Nigerians. At no time in history has sustainable peace been built on theft, injustice, corruption and inequity.”

target=_blank>Election Suspended In Bayelsa Constituency

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has suspended the supplementary election in Brass Constituency 1 of Bayelsa State.
A statement issued on Saturday by Monday Udoh, the state Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), noted that the decision was based on a court order directing the commission to add polling unit not earlier captured in the area.
A Federal High Court sitting in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital, had ruled that the commission capture the said polling units in the supplementary election scheduled to hold in the constituency.
The statement read: “INEC wishes to inform the good people of Bayelsa that the supplementary polls to conclude results in three constituencies namely: Brass 1, Ogbia 11, and Southern Ijaw IV, is holding on March 23 with the exception of Brass 1.
“The conduct of supplementary elections in Brass 1, ward 6 polling units 11-16 has been put on hold by an interlocutory order of the Federal High Court in Yenagoa in Suit No: FHC/YNG/CS/41/2019 and dated March 22.
“The supplementary elections in the other two constituencies are holding as scheduled. We wish to inform that necessary arrangements are already in place for a hitch-free exercise in those two constituencies.
“As a law abiding agency, the commission will inform the stakeholders as soon as the court order is dispensed with on Brass Constituency 1.”

It was cash for votes in Gama Ward of Nasarawa Local Government Area of Kano State on Saturday during the supplementary elections held in the state.
In what appeared to be a swift business venture, albeit illegal, some persons who seemed like party agents, although the party they represented was not immediately obvious, engaged in a an exchange of voter cards for cash.
A video posted on Twitter by @UmarG_ showed a party agent in Kano holding on to what seemed to be numerous voter cards, which he gave out one after the other, while two other persons seemed to act as assistant.
One of the main ‘election businessmen’, who acted as the advert executive/announcer kept marketing the trade, said: “Register her name and give her N500.” He continued: “After you have voted you should wash the ink, then come and collect another N500.”
“Don’t allow them to enter through the other door. Vote and collect N500.”

Rivers State Election Fraud-Facts: Questions And Answers By R. B. Dagogo-Jack

In the 2015 elections :
1. PDP controlled the FGN & APC was in opposition. Fact.
2. The Military was heavily involved during the elections which took place in Ekiti , Rivers & others. Fact.
3. In spite of the huge Military involvement in that election , no soldiers were reported shot dead by armed political thugs  because the then  opposition APC , unlike the then ruling PDP did not recruit & arm our youths with lethal weapons during the elections to shoot at sight anyone who tried to stop them from snatching election materials . Fact.
4. Armed militants recruited by PDP, openly enjoyed the protection of the police and military & terrorized & chased away both opponents & voters into hiding , hijacked sensitive election materials, wrote millions of ghost votes for themselves & got Mrs Gesila Khan the then REC to declare PDP winner. Fact
5. The then Rivers REC Mrs Khan and her team made history as the most compromised and corrupt State INEC office in Nigeria based on several corroborating evidence of collusion with PDP to announce false results with impunity. Many police officers & EOs are still subjects  of criminal investigation as a fall out of that election.  Fact.
Comparatively in this 2019 elections : 1. The APC controls the Federal Government, PDP in opposition. The roles reversed. Fact
2. Military involved also in the elections but this time more as a repelling force against the activities of armed political thugs, to create the enabling environment for citizens to vote , than as a participant in the elections. Fact
3. At least four military personnel shot dead and two lying in critical conditions in various parts of the State including Abonnema, Khana, Obio Akpor by thugs with illegal arms procured for then by the political actors . Fact
4. Real voter turn out increased significantly compared to 2015 as the Military presence provided adequate security and assurance for voters to come out and vote. The recorded votes though much lower than criminally fabricated results of 2015 reflect the true will of the people. The millions of ghost votes accepted by INEC in 2015 when armed PDP thugs were used to scare voters away , hijack election materials & generate fabricated results is a violent rape of our democracy. Fact
5. In most of the LGAs , the Military adequately contained the attempts by the armed PDP thugs to hijack election materials which these thugs did with impunity and the full connivance of the PDP controlled security agencies & INEC in 2015. Fact.
QUESTIONS & ANSWERS ON THE  PERFORMANCE OF THE INEC TEAM IN RIVERS STATE :
1. Since INEC’s reason for illegally suspending the elections was WIDESPREAD VIOLENCE & DISRUPTION OF THE ELECTORAL PROCESS  ACROSS THE 23 LGAs, is it then still possible in such a widespread violent disruption situation, for the same INEC to honestly turn around & claim to mysteriously have in its custody the election results for 17 out of 23 LGAs, as announced four days following the arrival of the INEC fact finding team?. How could the electoral process have overcome the purported  massive violence &  disruption to produce over 70% return of results from the field.  Either the claim of violence is false or the claim of concluded election in 17 wards is false. Very fishy!
2. How come in at least 15 of the 23 LGAs , most of the adhoc staff , namely the Collation and Returning Officers have all been identified as card carrying members of the PDP some of whom actually also ran primaries races only a few months back on the PDP platform ? Careless mistake by INEC ? Hardly !!!
3. How come the incumbent PDP guber candidate was able to publish on his twitter handle the same story of concluded elections in 17 LGAs well before INEC went public with this incredulous claim? Backdoor channels at work ? Untidy !!
4. How come Rivers-INEC engaged dismissed or suspended staff of the University of Port Harcourt , as adhoc staff to manage very sensitive electoral duties in gross violation of the electoral law. Another careless mistake? Hardly.
5.  How come INEC bluntly refused to mention in any of its statements or reports the very grievous incident of a serving governor who is on the ballot raiding the collation center for his LGA & in the full glare of all present at the collation center, forcefully snatched the election materials, abducted some  protesting Agents of the AAC & in the process even got a military personnel shot by his own armed personnel. The wounded soldier still lies in critical condition at the Port Harcourt Military Hospital as one of the living witnesses of this incident totally ignored by INEC in all its reports when INEC is fully aware that such an action is a clear violation of the electoral law as only accredited Party Agents are allowed access by law at the collation centres.
6. Knowing what we all know about the INEC -Wike joint venture, can anyone in good conscience hold the view that if indeed the incoming results were in favor of the incumbent PDP candidate , this Gesila infected INEC team would have stampeded the INEC headquarters into the suspension decision using the clearly false alarm of widespread violence as they did ? Hardly !!! Rather they would rush to announce the results instead of holding back the results for weeks with the high probability of releasing them contaminated .
7. Does INEC Headquarters really believe that this openly compromised Rivers State INEC personnel who stampeded them into suspending  a smooth running election with a false alarm , has the integrity to keep in custody election returns from LGAs for close to two weeks without  tampering & contamination? Serious doubts !!!
8. How come up until this moment  INEC is yet to openly acknowledge that by the time the strange suspension order was released , only election results in 7 LGAs, namely Asari-Toru, Akuku-Toru, Ahoada-West, Eleme, Oyigbo, Ikwerre & PHALGA  had been announced at the LGA collation centers. There was also confirmed reports of election cancellations in a few LGAs such as Abua/Odual & Tai . Even more disturbing is the fact that they have also flatly refused to give the public the list of the 17 LGAs whose results mysteriously found their way in spite of the widespread violence to their secure custody. Is this transparent? Not a farthing chance !!
8. The practice and norms of conducting general elections as is well known the world over , accepts the cancellation of elections in localized areas based on situations peculiar to that location but the idea of a statewide blanket suspension of an otherwise smooth running election relying on a spurious allegation of widespread violence as done by the Rivers State INEC team takes election fraud way out of all rational proportions. Even Mrs Gesila will puke at this gaffe & for sure Rivers people will not accept to live with this fraud.
9. Have we really wondered why in the preceding presidential election of February the 23rd , despite recording more cases of violence & deaths in isolated areas , Mr Effanga the REC did not deem it fit to recommend a statewide blanket suspension of that election but sees it fit to do so in the subsequent election ? Now what changed between those two weeks except  the desperation of the PDP Governor to forcefully dictate the outcome of the election in his favor by all means. Unfortunately , this time the PDP doesn’t control the security agencies as was in 2015 & with the PDP armed political thugs fully overpowered by the military, they had no choice but fall back on the successor of Gesila Khan to come to their rescue.
10. Let’s we forget , the incumbent governor and his collaborators in INEC had only a few months back,  rehearsed this suspension gambit in the bye-election into the House Assembly for Port Harcourt Local Government Area 3 constituency. As soon as the returned votes in that election started tending towards a loss for the PDP, Mr Effanga and his team wasted no time in suspending that election indefinitely to date , without caring a hoot the negative impact that has had on the constituency who have been denied representation in the State Assembly for all this while. Clearly PDP & REC Effanga tested the waters in that smaller election & since they went scot free , they felt emboldened to reenact the same in the gubernatorial election.
The people of Rivers State at every strata of the society witnessed for the first time an election cycle which recorded at once , the highest real voter turn out , the lowest incident of ballot box / election materials snatching & most pleasingly the lowest cases of civilian fatalities.
All these positives were down mainly to the adequate deployment of military personnel who placed their lives on the line in the discharge of their duties.
The people of Rivers State across the 23 LGAs are fully appreciative of this horror saving sacrifice of our  men  & women in uniform. They also firmly believe that if this tempo of active military deployment is maintained in our elections, by the time we get to the next election cycle,  the threat of deadly conflicts & violence caused by armed political thugs would be drastically reduced if not wiped out as less & less youths will be ready to risk their lives   just to elect politicians.
Rivers people are united in the demand to delegitimize all portions of the last election exercise which fail to meet the integrity test and request INEC Headquarters to transfer REC Effanga & his tainted team out the State & re-conduct elections in affected areas , the results of which the people would accept as fair, free , credible & can live with , so that the people can in unity begin to rebuild their devasted economy & regain lost grounds.R.
